1) It's much easier on the offense when they aren't dealing with the crowd noise. Communication is easier and the OL gets off the ball faster when crowd noise isn't a factor. Likewise, the QB's cadence doesn't have as much of an effect on the DL. The offenses advantage in this area is negated which can make 7 step drops more difficult to execute because of protection issues. This doesn't mean you shouldn't call downfield passes at all, but it should at least be noted that it makes things more difficult.
2) Ohio State has better skill players, specifically on the outside. Not to say that Iowa doesn't have players on offense that are matchup problems (Fant, Wadley), but Ohio State has a few more weapons that can specifically challenge this offense. In order to combat this on defense, Wisconsin hasn't been quite as aggressive, quite as often as normal. They can't afford to put their guys into too many bad situations in the defensive backfield. What we've seen is some 3 man rushes from time to time and Barrett has had loads of time.
3) Barrett is a threat to run. I know a lot of people would love to see Iowa get more dual threat guys at QB (myself included), but Iowa doesn't have that. Ohio State can call plays downfield because they don't have two freshman OT's and Barrett can potentially bail out the offensive play call if the protection doesn't allow him to wait for something to open up downfield.
4) The game is played in the dome. Temperature and wind are non factors in this game.

Agree with all. Played in dome is huge. Easier to make cuts on fake turf. No slipping hardly at all. Not real football. Play on real grass or at least in 30 degree weather. Yes, I am old. I miss real grass fields

Just like every other defense (including tOSU's), if the offense changes things up on occasion, the defense gets rattled.

The offense creates plays. The defense reacts to plays. If the offense can force the defense to think, the defense can't attack and their reaction is slower. The offense must have multiple options available to each play. Iowa's defense has already shown that their assignment football can stop option teams with one other option like a, for example, Georgia Tech.

I hope so, it seems odd to that a successful OL coach is at OC and a successful OC is the OL coach

Brian Ferentz's OL coaching in 2016 lead to one of the worst pass blocking lines the hawks have ever had, a major reason CJB was on his butt and back much of the year. We had 2 1000 yard rushers last year but CJ was sacked a bunch or had no time to throw. Last year could have been a 10-2 record at least with some pass blocking.

The pregame show on FOX literally never stopped salivating over Wisky's young DC. They just couldn't stop talking about how great the Badger defense was, and how the young coordinator had the "trust" of his players. Then the game starts and Ohio State is just faster and stronger and only gets stopped when they get in their own way and make some High School style mistakes or turn the ball over.

After the first quarter Barrett just airmailed a whole bunch of passes, like totally overthrowing guys after spending like forever just standing in the pocket like he could sit down and read the paper because the pass rush was never gonna get there. But anyways the speedy wide receivers were just wide open down the field all night long.

Yes, OSU had easy chance with wide open receivers for a Td just before halftime and a 28-10 lead. Same thing mid to late 3rd qtr to get to 35 points.

I think after the 2nd Barrett INT which was their 3rd turnover Urban went into conservative mode not trusting Barrett. Right now Barrett makes some dumb throws and bad throws so if they get picked in the playoffs they will probalby get buried again.

Fair point. The pass blocking in 2015 and 2016 was subpar at best. The run blocking was fantastic though. In BF's defense, his tackles both of those seasons should have been guards. This season was the first time in awhile that Iowa has had tackles that are athletic enough to be tackles but they weren't ready to be playing full time.

I hope our O-line will be better too.
The Iowa fan in me always, always knows there is room to regress under the current administration! There really is no reason besides coaching that we shouldn't be an 8-4 team next year with experience in many positions except LB.
