Will Matt Gatens become the new whipping boy. If he does he will join a long list of Hawkeye whipping boys. Former players who were ripped on include, McCann, Reiners,Larson Shada, JC, Paki, and most young cornerbacks. BB players include Troy Skinner, Wade Lookingbill, and Bawinkle. I do not mind some criticism of players, but why does it have to so personal and vicious ? Alot of players careers were effected by injuries. Some were not as good as there recruiting rankings. Call me all the names you w ant, but I do not think it is necessary to say someone sucks or is a wasted scholarship. Wanting players to leave also ticks me off. Can anyone think of any more players who dissed?

I guess we've had a LONG line of "whipping boys", since he's hardly the first Hawkeye to have their game critiqued (that kinda happens to, you know, EVERY player who sees action).

Why would Gatens be the next whipping boy? Underachieving, lack of effort, lack of love for the colors, and getting in trouble are usually what causes this. I don't think Gatens falls into any of those categories. He messed up at the end last night, big deal, just because ppl are talking about it today (the day after) alot doesn't mean it will even be a conversation tomorrow (or more likely after the next game).

Wow. I've yet to see a single post saying that, which means the odds are that the posters who hold THAT opinion are in a miniscule minority. If you're going to take THOSE guys' opinions seriously, then you really need to rethink visiting messages boards.

So we aren't allowed to even suggest that maybe Gatens would be better on the perimeter vs. trying to take it to the rim? WOW. I don't see any threads where people are like "Gatens sucks!!!". It's legitemate critique from what I've seen.

Herb Grigsby was another big time one in 2006. Dude couldn't catch........um, a VD from.......uh," lady of the night" that charged less than the going rate. I'm trying to think of a way to say that in a way that it wouldn't get me banned.
regardless, it's too early to tell with gatens. Everybody's still learning the system, it takes some longer than others. Certain guys "get it" sooner than others, like May seems to have picked it up very quickly.
