I know many of Frosh class will redshirt? Who won't

I say:

CJ FED

COKER

MORRIS

C DAVIS

The rest may red shirt unless we need some help on SPec teams. Am I missing anyone?

We have a lot of depth this year. If the kid is not going to get second team reps or play on several special teams units, most likely there is no need to burn the redshirt. CJ is the most likely, as he likely will get second team reps. Maybe, if we think a kid could compete for 2-deep position next year, it might not hurt to let them play special teams this year and get their feet wet.

Eligibility wise there are some holes in the freshman/sophomore LB classes, and we brought in 4 LB's this year. At least 1 will likely play, special teams and get some developmental reps in practice. Morris might be the most mature of LB's giving his an advantage.

Possible we could see a RB. However, with Coker's injury that will hurts is development, even if its just a few weeks. He will essentially miss most of camp. Johnson has been out of football for awhile, coaches might want to ease him back in. If either show they are capable, I'm for letting them play.

If a Safety recruit is physically ready to play, there might be a chance to get on the field some with special teams and get there feet wet to compete for a 2-deep spot next year.

I think that either Johnson or Coker will redshirt. If the coaching staff can get through the first game without using Johnson, then they can let him and Coker work in practice and decide which they want to keep on the active roster. But I would like to see one of them redshirt just to space these guys out a little bit.

Don't see Morris playing this year. Not ready. Too much media hype at this time. Will be solid in a couple years.

If they can earn it ... I anticipate that we COULD see 2 TR FR LBs seeing action this fall.

We're going to have a few blow-outs and I think that those could end up being used as a stepping stone for guys to get up to game speed a year before they're REALLY needed. However, if Getz and DiBona are doing really well at , they could potentially ward off the need to have 2 TR FR see action.

Also, I wouldn't be shocked to see a TR FR safety see action.

While we have pretty nice depth at both WR and CB ... I wouldn't be shocked if Lowery (at CB) and/or Shumpert (WR) managed to see the field early.

And, I think that it goes without saying that CJ sees action early. Lastly, I agree that it's definitely possible that a TR FR (namely Carl Davis) could see early action on the DL. We graduate a lot of talent on the DL after this season.

IF it wasnt for Coleman transferring NO fresh linebackers would see any time this year. It would just be too much depth to go around. As far as true fresh i think CJ may make the cut maybe davis, a DB and IF Johnson can stay healthy and continue to prove himself like i think he's capable, he may avoid the ole redshirt.

CJ Fed, Morris, and maybe Coker will most likely not redshirt...I wouldn't count Morris out...I can guarantee you that no one is outworking him down there...and he's a VERY intelligent individual. I think it's almost a sure thing that CJ is going to play.

Maybe he's not ready to rotate in at LB, especially with Troy Johnson and Bruce Davis ahead of him but I'd be damn surprised if Kirk doesn't have him playing special teams this year.

I'll go so far as to say that Polish Hat gets into the EIU game fairly early. After that, I'll depend on this board to see who got in.

Ideally, a lot of the backups and younger players will see some time during that game, and if everything goes weil, the ISU game as well.

I think Coker plays this year. I know that I have conspiracy theory tendencies but I have trouble with the official report that Coker broke his colarbone and then a week later it was stated that he'd be ready to go in 1-2 weeks. Sorry but part of that story is BS. I have noticed that the the Iowa coaching staff tries to hide (keep under the radar) young players that they think have a lot of potential and I think this maybe an example of that as it seems like a convienently timed excuse to keep him out of the open practice.

yes I know that sounds crazy.

Just straying a little off topic. But with a senior loaded team, Iowa needs to get the younger guys as much experiance as possible.
