If Hawks win out over the right opponents?

Michigan state has one of the best defensive teams in the country.

It sure seemed to me that we were a far better team when Heiden was on the floor. She's long and she has good foot speed.

Would love to see her get 15 to 20 minutes against Ohio State. Maybe have her on the floor at the same time as Hannah?

Come on Jan! Surely she sees it?
Heiden was a revelation yesterday. I thought the same thing, that they were better with her on the floor.

By my Iowa math skills (back when the state cared about that shit), I have the Hawks as 18-2 in BTT games and NCAA tournament games since 2023.

That's a hell of a run. Let's get on another heater....
Pretty sure one of the female talking heads said that with the win over Sparty, the Hawks have now tied the all-time conference record for most consecutive tournament wins by a B1G team, at 11.

Time to take the all-time lead for consecutive W's TONIGHT! GO HAWKS!!!!

Hannah was hampered by the fouls, but Ada secured the win for us

Hawks are a rather tough brand of birds
Agree- Hannah missed some bunnies early, but then entered her usual “Hanna” zone until the Zebras decided to call that 4th foul which was ridiculous. Jan thought so too!

Then Ava came in and demonstrated why she is the future post player for IA WBB. Really hope she stays a hawk in this turnstile era of college athletics

Give Jan credit for quite the season, BUT she needs to focus more on bench coaching in crucial situations instead of losing her shit. Sound familiar?

She complained about her team being too tight and wound up. Look in the mirror.

I was surprised Heiden wasn’t in on that last defensive possession. Hannah and her were playing well together. Also surprised Heiden wasn’t in for rebounding on a possible missed free throw. You were going to call a timeout anyway after the free throws regardless so then sub her out if you wanted to go with McCabe on your offensive possession. All we needed was one McCabe three tonight. That hurt.

Spot on re Lucy but Lucy also disappeared in the 4th quarter. What one shot? Gotta be more aggressive.

Hannah played her butt off.

We still need to get more athletic in years to come if we want to get back to a Final Four.
Love this team’s heart and grit.

Feuerbach and Stuelke both had good looks…they simply missed.

Achilles heel of this team is its inability to handle pressure defense. Jensen did adjust by throwing over- the-top of the press to Affolter or Feuerbach, but never could into any flow offensively in this game. Everytime OSU made a bucket, they put that press on, and it was a struggle to get it to the mid-court line.

Loved the play to Syd at the end. Tough, smart player who can play through contact when driving to the hole. Clutch free throw shooter. Needed the whistle on that one.

Yes, if fouls were called a little different, maybe Iowa could have won. But if Iowa would have shot a little better, Iowa would have won easily.

Oh well, now it's time to rest up. It's scary to think how close Iowa was this season to a 4 seed and home court in the NCAA first rounds. But a 6 seed is not terrible if they can get a 6.

There's a pic on Hawk Central I think that shows Syd getting mugged by 2 diff defenders on that play. Much worse than the contract called on the other end.
During the post-game on the radio, one of the assistants said that before the inbounds pass with 0.7 left, a ref went out and warned a Bucknut that she couldn't grab the Iowa player like that. Umm. . .isn't that called a foul, and since they were in the bonus, two shots for Iowa?

Early in the Clark years, I recall a situation against Sparty, with only a handful of seconds left, where the 4 Iowa players were all lined up one behind the other, with Sparty players crowding in, before the ball was to be passed in by Iowa. The Hawks were up by 1 or 2, as i recall. A defender was leaning on her, so Clark nudged a Sparty player away and got whistled for a foul before the pass in was attempted. The ball went over to Sparty, but fortunately they didn't score & Iowa won the game.

That same Hawk Central article gently pointed out that the blocking foul on Stuelke that resulted in the game tying and game winning free throws could very easily been called a charge.

Something better than 0 of 6 from 3 from McCabe to follow up her 4 of 10 from the night before, or no T on JJ, or any of a myriad of woulda, coulda, shouldas, and it would be the Hawks trying to score 3 more points against UCLA than last time to get a shot at beating JuJu again this season. But. . .

As has been noted, the Hawks can compete with anyone! Let's get a great NCAA draw and go on another long run!
