Whether Lick is back or not

How much does Jay Wright make at Nova? Jamie Dixon is rumored to be a target of DePaul....either of these guys could work.

Is this a serious post? Why would Jay Wright ever want to come to Iowa when he has such a good thing going at Villanova? And why would Jamie Dixon ever leave Pitt for DePaul? That's about 1000x worse than coming to Iowa right now.

And do you think Iowa will be any better off next year if players upperclassmen who are unhappy with the program AGAIN transfer and lackluster has to begin all over again?

What I find amusing is that for the past 3 months even lackluster supporters have been saying they want him back UNLESS players transfer and here we have a case of players being unhappy and threatening transfer. Instead of supporters being angry that players may AGAIN transfer, they are angry at the players for speaking up and expressing their opinions and saying such nonsense as, "the inmates are running the program," or "the AD should not be listening to KIDS (which they are not)," and other such nonsense. The supporters wanted to believe that the ship was righted and everyone was happy as larks and now when we find out that parents and players are not happy and that sophomores and freshmen are as friendly with each other as they might be, and that some players weren't happy how Tucker was treated, and so on, those same supporters want to blame the players instead of Lackluster.

There is no way the man can coach next year. Select players, if they don't transfer, will have no respect for lackluster and lackluster won't trust some of the players. There will be dissension on the team and how can lackluster keep a team together like that, especially if they again begin losing, which they will.

So what is better...firing lackluster now or next year when the program has completely fallen apart or in midseason when players announce they are transferring at semester break?

The lackluster experiment is OVA' -- which proves there really is a god and it is smiling on Iowa this spring!

Lick was definitely a bad hire. His record over the last three years speaks for itself.

Ferentz's record in his first 3 years 11-24 .458.

The logic of bad record for three years = bad hire does not always work. You can bring up any number of reasons why you knew at the time that Ferentz wasn't a bad hire...and I'm sure you'll cite the improvement in record over the years...but at the end of the day his record was not very good until he got the program to the level that he needed it to succeed.

Can we stop with the KF comparisons already?

The football team was improving quickly in year 2 and was starting to win IN THE CONFERENCE by year's end. In year 3 they won a bowl game. Despite what that 3-year record shows. Read between the lines and don't just look at records.

KF wasn't setting school records for futility like Lickliter is doing.

I still fail to see how anyone can point to KF's first 3 years and apply that to what Lickliter has done.

This is getting old.

????? Ferentz won the Alamo Bowl in his 3rd year

Winning a bowl game in year three in football would be equal to making the NCAA tournament in basketball. I can't wait to watch the selection show Sunday and see what our seed is...please. Are you sure that's a good comparison?

It sounds like this is going to be hard for you to understand...

Kirk Ferentz is a very good coach. It took a while for Kirk Ferentz to turn the program into a winning product. Thus...even with a good coach it can take a while for them to turn a program into a winner.

Is it the exact same situation...no. Is there a lesson to be learned for Iowa fans when all of the coaches that fans run out of town go on to have success elsewhere...I think so.

Ferentz teams improved all 3 years, Licks not so much.
In Ferentz 3rd year 7-5 bowl win

In Licks 3rd year 10-22 most looses in school history. Largest margin of defeat to Wisconsin and Minnesota in school history. Has had 7 transfers in 3 years. Last year out of 12 scholarship players 4 transferred that's 33.3% of the team.

No, I think you are the one who is totally lost.

If you can't see that Ferentz was QUICKLY turning things around at Iowa, then you obviously weren't following the football program very closely back in 2000 and 2001. He went from 1-11 in year one to playing in a BCS game 3 years later. It was a very fast turnaround.

It has been the OPPOSITE with Lickliter. At the minimum, we should be seeing progress in the right direction in 3 years, but instead, we are getting record-setting seasons in terms of losing.

I can't believe I actually have to explain this to you.

Yep it it took him 2 seasons
1st year 1-10 11th place finish
2nd year 3-9 8th place finish
3rd year 7-5 4th place finish bowl win

I think this is the biggest thing...a chance to have hope again. Don't underestimate that.
Hence the EXPLOSION of excitement when an apparent change was in the works.
I can't believe anyone can't see the need for change when the kids played SO well on thurs. when they actually applied some different looks. Remember most of these guys haven't played a trapping or zone defense in at least two years. So its not like they were polished in their effort.I can't believe Lick pulled out something different and showed his lack of coaching. Maybe he just really didn't know he was being stupid.Really hard to imagine.
