Whether Lick is back or not

Does it really make that big of a difference for everyone to be freaking out?

If Lick is fired and we bring in a huge name...we're likely looking at 3 or 4 years before Iowa is good...and we still have a pretty decent possibility of the new coach not working out (i.e. every coach we've ever had).

If Lick is back...we've got a decent recruiting class coming in next year and we should continue to improve given the youth on this team and next year's team. We will most likely be looking at 2-3 years before we'll be real good but you have to think that once he's given a few more years there's a decent chance Lickliter will have a competitive team.

Does anyone honestly think that our chances of being good any time soon increase by bringing in some coach with a comparable (if not worse) resume to Lickliter and starting all over again?

Also...if you were looking for a new job and you were privy to information on how it went for the previous people in that position and found out that the company had a history of running out people in that position much sooner than the industry average...if you were any good at what you do...how strongly would you consider that position?

And do you think Iowa will be any better off next year if players upperclassmen who are unhappy with the program AGAIN transfer and lackluster has to begin all over again?

What I find amusing is that for the past 3 months even lackluster supporters have been saying they want him back UNLESS players transfer and here we have a case of players being unhappy and threatening transfer. Instead of supporters being angry that players may AGAIN transfer, they are angry at the players for speaking up and expressing their opinions and saying such nonsense as, "the inmates are running the program," or "the AD should not be listening to KIDS (which they are not)," and other such nonsense. The supporters wanted to believe that the ship was righted and everyone was happy as larks and now when we find out that parents and players are not happy and that sophomores and freshmen are as friendly with each other as they might be, and that some players weren't happy how Tucker was treated, and so on, those same supporters want to blame the players instead of Lackluster.

There is no way the man can coach next year. Select players, if they don't transfer, will have no respect for lackluster and lackluster won't trust some of the players. There will be dissension on the team and how can lackluster keep a team together like that, especially if they again begin losing, which they will.

So what is better...firing lackluster now or next year when the program has completely fallen apart or in midseason when players announce they are transferring at semester break?

The lackluster experiment is OVA' -- which proves there really is a god and it is smiling on Iowa this spring!

As Kenyon Murray noted in his radio interview this morning, a good coach can turn a basketball program around in 1-2 years. He went on to elaborate that it only takes 1-2 great players to make it happen.

So, yes, I fully believe we are a lot better off cutting ties with Lickliter right now and moving on. As has been noted, after the events of the last few days, there is no way Lickliter can come back and coach Iowa.

Even the most staunch Lick supporters have to admit that it's great to have passionate basketball discussions again...aka "something different to b!tch about"...it was getting old. And once it gets this far, it's way too hard to reel it back in.

Not by bringing in with someone of comparable resume, but who says we can't get a decent coach, besides a few negative nellies on these boards?

Fans said the same thing when Mr. Davis replaced Raveling...'' it will be the same players,so what is the big deal?''...but it was a big deal, because Mr. Davis took the same players, put them in a new system, and boom...they win 30 games.

I was watching Colt Iverson of Minny last nite and remembered that Iowa recruited him hard, and that Cougill allegedlly outplayed him in AAU matchups...but watching Iverson get his butt in the paint last nite and bull his way to the bucket and be used in the right way...I thought..gee,if Lick had got him,he would probably have used him wrong, and had him out setting picks attthe arc...and not posting up,and bumping his way into position for a jumphook.

Cougs has can be used better. Many Iowa players could be. We need to add 1-2 quick perimeter penetrators to complement Cully and Gatens/May and we could be a totally different looking team next year in a new system.
Part of being a good coach is using players to feature their best skills, not trying to stick square pegs in a round hole for 3 years.

I'm with this guy.

Kenyon Murray said it...so it was true.

Who are the coaches that turned it around in 2 years...and what situation did they walk into and how was the change done? Is the coaching change at Iowa going to be more comparable to Calipari at Kentucky or Tubby Smith at Minnesota? And can we even get someone as good as Tubby Smith?

Look at the other coaching changes in the Big Ten...I think Indiana made Tom Crean the highest paid coach in the country at the time he was signed.

A coaching change at Iowa will not be a good thing.

I love Hawkeye basketball and have felt like Bill Murray in "Groundhog Day", ie the same bad crap keeps happening over and over again. I've got to tell you, my last couple of days I have felt like a new man. It feels like a cloud of doom has been lifted from over my head and a ray of sunshine is once again coming into the picture.

I Don't know if we can get someone as good as Tubby Smith but our current coach doesn't even belong in the same ballpark with him.

I bet you had a real great feeling when Alford resigned...and again when we hired to reigning National Coach of the Year too huh?

How much does Jay Wright make at Nova? Jamie Dixon is rumored to be a target of DePaul....either of these guys could work.

To answer your question, I didn't like the Lickliter hire at all went it happened. Feel free to contact me and I will let you interview my family, friends, and co-workers to verify this statement.

Oh...so you are the guy who never called for Parker...or Ferentz...didn't want Iowa to let go of Tom Davis...and thought that Alford and Lickliter were bad hires. I've been looking for someone with the balls to admit that.

You think that O'Keefe is a bum...until Iowa's offense does something good and then you've always been the guy who has had his back.

Wow, you really have issues. I will admit that I was ok with the non-renewal of Davis (even though I thoroughly enjoyed his years of coaching) and was excited about the hire of Alford. Let's just say that the on-court results of Lick's time as HC have made Steve look like a genius. As far as football goes, I have never been against any of the current coaches, as they have consistently produced results to back up their status. It's called coaching credibility. Anything else you feel like accusing me of? Maybe if you actually knew me...but you don't.

Exactly. His record of utter failure can not be argued. How many BAD records did he have to set to convince people that things are not going well?

Lick was definitely a bad hire. His record over the last three years speaks for itself.
