Where does Fran rank in the BIG?

Yo, dipstick, I am a 50 year follower of Iowa athletics - since age 7!! I just call them as I see them, no rose colored, homeboy glasses like some of you self proclaimed bastions of athletic knowledge.

You people have a Sid Hartman mentality. For the ignorant, such as you, he is a 98 year old Minnesota Star Tribune sportswriter who continues to have delusions of Gopher football greatness.

After seeing yet another pathetic performance by this coach and his staff, does any more evidence need to be placed before your blind eyes? ! A loss to UNO, Are you kidding me!

Tell me, how is he not the WORST coach in the BIG? These are all his recruits, this is his offensive scheme (as it is), this is his defensive philosophy on display, and this is his schedule.

He needs to be ushered to the exit gate. He should go back to Sienna where he belongs.

Iowa is one of 3 big ten teams to go to the last three NCAA tournaments, along with MSU and Wisconsin. That means teams like Purdue, Indiana, and Michigan have missed the tournament in the last 3 years. Purdue actually missed two consecutive tournaments (2013 & 2014).

Let's not forget we have played the last two games without our second best player, and pretty much the entire year without Dale Jones.

Overall, Fran has done an excellent job in his time here bringing this program back from the depths. I certainly have my concerns wth his ability to coach defense and manage rotations, however I'm not going to throw him under the bus yet. His next step is going to be building a program that makes the tournament year in and year out, and making a couple deeper runs when he gets there.

And for being some wise 50 year follower you should know losses like UNO happen all the time in college BB. Wisconsin lost to Wester Illinois and UW Milwaukee at home last year and made it to the sweet 16. You're welcome for the perspective :).

I think it's clear that he's the best since Mr. Davis, and is probably equal to him. He's done a fine job rebuilding the program. Bad things happen to all programs and those are beyond the coaches control. Mr. Davis's 2 worse years followed heavy losses due to graduation plus lossing additional players. BJ, Roy and Ed graduate, plus Bullard is injured, and Thomsen, Garner are kicked out midseason. In the other year Earl and Barnes graduate, Street died, Smith leaves, Winters got injured. This year is similar. However unlike with Thomsen and Garner, Cook and Jones will be back. So once this team gets it's full compliment of players they will be far more dangerous than any of those teams were. Heck Iowa even beat ranked Michigan, Illinois and Purdue without Thomsen and Garner. Bullard came back but he was limited. This team will do more than that.

Didn't recruit Uthoff and if he could recruit why are we so bad this year? Did he just forget how to coach? Look at his 2014 and 2015 classes and say he can recruit with a straight face

Tom Crean, Matt Painter, and John Beilien can't recruit either because they missed NCAA tournaments, in the last four years.

I agree the 2014 & 2015 classes are weak but how can Fran plan for Dale Jones to spend his entire time here hurt? I think Moss is going to be a really good player. And I think Uhl could have been much better but hasn't amounted to much, right now I think that's as much mental as it is physical.

Whereas I don't completely agree with everything said, this post just has to be nominated for post of year. Well written my friend! LOL

Dale Jones had no offers out of JUCO. Who knows if he's even good
