Where do you guys tailgate?

For the last several years, my friends and I have tailgated at the Finkbine Commuter lot. I personally am not a big fan. It doesn't really have the right 'feel' for Kinnick, being the big, open lot that it is. Not to mention the price to park there is going up yet again this year and it is a long walk to the stadium.

We've thought about buying a parking pass but honestly we would prefer to just find a yard or a private lot somewhere where we won't have to worry about the nazis kicking us out after the game or dumping out our bottles.

We usually show up to Finkbine around 5:30-6:00 regardless of game time, so I would assume there are pay as you go lots that would still have spaces at that time. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it!

My tailgating group has a spot a couple blocks off Melrose. We've got the entire front yard of someone's house and we have use of indoor bathroom facilities and electrical outlets all season long. We're much closer to Kinnick than the commuter lot or Finkbine and we got the place for a good price.

I would recommend taking a look at Craigslist for spots. That's where we found ours and we couldn't be happier.

Thanks for the tip, never thought of looking at Craigslist. There's usually about 4 vehicles (regulars) and anywhere from 1-5 more that could show up at any given week. All I'm really concerned with is the regular 4 and the rest can walk in if necessary - and I'm sure we could condense into fewer vehicles if we had to.

You're welcome for the tip!

I don't know what you are looking to spend but we've got 7 spots at our place and we still have plenty of room for grilling, bags, throwing the football around, etc.....

I think we paid $1,000 for the spot last year but I believe the price is going up slightly this year. When it's split 7 ways and covers all the home games, it's really not much to spend in the grand scheme of things.

Just so I have this right, you got 7 spots for $1000 correct? Even if we paid around $600 for 4 spots, I don't think anyone in my group would have a problem with that.

Per game lots are fine too...

Technically, we got the whole yard for $1,000. We just chose to limit the number of cars to 7 so that we'd have enough room for other activities. If we were just looking to make it cheaper we could probably fit another 4 or 5 cars in the yard/driveway.

FYI - The price went up to $1,200 this year. Still well within the budget for everyone at roughly $25/car/game.
