Where are the Mabin Lovers?

For the last two years, he is a soft spot in the defense. If you need 10 yard, look right and you will get it. He may be a wonderful person and someone you want your daughter to marry, but he sucks as a d-back.

I hate what is going on but the coaches are to blame, not the players. Calling out players at this level is lame. KF is the real underlying culprit here which we are screwed every way from Sunday because of it. He is a good guy but not a great coach.... We have seen this debacle happen so many times, it get stupid to recount them all. Until he is gone, we will see the same thing over, and over, and over, and over, and over........ Point made. JHC!!!!

Yeah bench him problem solved.

I guess the days of being (inside someone's jersey) are gone. Back in the day that was the only way to play pass defense. Now we are five yards off of the line of scrimmage and back peddling as soon as the ball is snapped. To be fair to the players that is the coaching philosophy here at Iowa.

There is absolutely no reason for any competent QB not to chew us apart with seven to ten yard passes until they are inside our twenty yard line where we use the end line of the end zone as an additional defensive tool. No pass rush and a deep cushion by our defensive backs means our passing defense is impotent, can't be stopped except for penalties or dropped passes. I hate it.

Mabin is a kid playing ball to the best of his abilities. I understand the frustration, but he isn't the reason the Hawkeyes lost Saturday.

He was lit up again this game. He is the best offensive threat any team could have playing Iowa.
When did Mabin get 'lit up'? Examples please? Do you 'people' EVER know what the hell you're talking about or is this just a place for drunks and stoners to come on to make inane rumblings? I'm serious. Mabin is no. 13 in case you didn't know. And it wasn't him that let the receiver by him in the end zone, that was Taylor. And it wasn't him that blew coverage on the last TD pass....Get a clue, dipshit..............

I don't fault Mabin.

But I wish the staff had kept him at WR and made Mo Fleming a starter.

Not saying that would cure our ills. But it's just another example of why the coaches struggle with MAC/FCS schools. Would Canzeri or Scheel been given a chance without divine intervention?

When a guy has all damn day back there to throw what do you expect??? Our D line gets zero pressure. Northwestern rushed 3 on one play and they got a sack. We rush 4 every down and what do we get damn near nothing. There better be some serious ass chewing going on for our lineman on both sides.

It's very hard to criticize Mabin when the interior of the defense is so bad. OK he's not King, but King doesn't get thrown too all that much. The defensive woes are more about interior lack of speed. Take a good receiver and a good QB and the back has a disadvantage to begin with. At to that equation having to cover other weakness and the problem grows.

I think the real problem is that as fans we haven't seen over the past number of years what a real qb and receiver combo that is well coached looks like. Last year's combo's had a lot to do with CJ just making plays on his own. Iowa also miss Smith and K-C a lot.

Mabin's definitely not strong enough to shut down an entire half of the field, like Desmond King is. He's also getting no help from the DL. If we're allowing the opposing QB all day to find his best receivers (almost always lined up against Mabin), eventually it's going to come back to bite us. He's not the only person keeping us from an undefeated season.

It's on the coaches to plan for and make adjustments to our weaknesses. If he's truly not the guy to put out there, the coaches need to make that change.

This is a great point. Given the fact we are not stopping the run with our front 7, not putting pressure on QB's, and is getting the best WR on every play...I'd say Mabin is doing ok...not great...but ok.

I have much greater concerns about our run defense than pass defense at this point.

Mabin isn't even in the top 5 of our issues, he's been just fine. Not great, but not the weak spot that has us at 3-2.

We gave up 200 yards rushing last game...that's not on Mabin.
