We are a week into this search... How long until we have a realistic list of coaches?
When will the Coach list come?

I'm not sure what list of coaches you are looking for. There are lots of people on the board who have talked about their personal lists but the U isn't going to publish anything of the sort. Thier process is going to be kept internal and we likely wont hear anything until they have made a selection.
In fact if we hear about a list from the media it will be a bad thing as the leaks will be comming from people surrounding candidates that were offered but turned down the offer. That would be a very bad thing.

Here's an idea: why don't you call Gary Barta and ask him when Iowa will be releasing such a list? Better yet, call Phil Haddy. Certainly they're typing it up as we speak.
In the meantime, Jon Miller has a pretty good summary on the front page of this site? Did you look at that?

Is this question directed at Barta or this message board? If you're waiting for those of us who post out here to come up with a "realistic" list like Dana Altman and Kirk Speraw, I wouldn't hold your breath.
As far as Barta - I doubt he's going to reveal his list. I don't believe he did last time. We probably won't hear anything official from Barta until he announces the hire. I'm guessing next week sometime.

If Altman and Speraw are the best we can do I can see all of Lickliter's records being broken.

Ya I don't think Barta would want to take all of the air out of the momentum this search is getting by putting out a list...he will delay the inevitable deflation for the official announcement.

Barta will release a list of candidates when he announces who has been hired. That list will contain exactly one name.

Come on now. Barta probably realizes better than anyone that this hire is going to be pivotal to his own ongoing career at Iowa. I don't see him just spinning the roulette wheel this time around.
If nothing else, Bobby Hansen likely can voice any and all of the same general malcontent topics that are on any message board. He watched & commentated every game and certainly knows how the game can be played excitingly and successfully at Iowa.

We aren't going to know anything until about a day before the person is hired. My guess it will be another 1.5 weeks or two weeks before we have a new coach in place. Until that announcement is made, all just speculation ... Everybody is an "expert" at times like this and that is part of the fun of it all ... But, Barta is not going to produce a list of candidates ... Sure, some coaching contacts may be made public (i.e. so and so athletic director at so and so university confirmed that Iowa has asked for persmission to speak with so and so) ... We may get a trickle of two like that but Barta was pretty good about keeping the lid on the Lickliter hire and I am pretty sure he will do the same this time around ...

Unfortunately the reality is even if Barta knows this hire is pivotal it may be out of his hands. Candidates don't care that this is a pivotal hire for him and I don't think they really care about how great Iowa has been in the past, they can still say no and that is out of Barta's and everyone elses control.
