When will McCaffery take the NEXT step in recruiting?

Pierce was a chicagoland recruit....and finished 2nd in the Mr Basketball voting to Eddy Curry.

But, since then....nada.
I think Malek Harris would be a step in the right direction, but still want to pull a top player out of chicago...then we will know that Iowa has really gone to the next level,recruiting-wise. No logical reason why Iowa,if it becomes a strong program, cannot get kids only 3 hours away to come....Purdue does it..they have Kendall Stephens coming next year.

Ok, for some odd reason, I thought Pierce was from the Peoria area. I am totes off mah game this week.

Let me start off by saying that I love McCaffery's recruiting efforts so far. The top 25 ranked class, outstanding. But in my opinion, and I'm interested in hearing you guys' opinions, I believe now that McCaffery has signed top 100 recruits and locked down the borders of the state of Iowa, that the next step becomes to go into the back yard of big name program and sign a top 100 recruit from outside the state. Maybe the Chicago area or go into Indiana or New York or North Carolina and snag a top 100 recruit. What do you guys think? Will Fran pull this off in 2014?

Best shot at out-of-state 2014 top 100 right now is Dominique Collier (#43ESPN). Past the dreams of T.Jones, Vaughn, C.Alexander, he actually is the highest-rated player, according to ESPN, that we're pursuing and have actually had a lot of contact with. He's from Denver, CO. Does that count?

Personally I could care less where a recruit comes from. I would rather have McCaffery NEXT step be making it to the Dance. I would also like to see them make it deep in the tourney. As long as he is recruiting talented enough players; who cares where they are from?

It seems like they have guys coming in every weekend for classes a year or two or three or four into the future. This staff seems to really know what they are doing, and the main thing is they are building relationships with a lot of guys. They had a top class after only a year on the job, but it probably had a lot to do with the number of players. Uthoff and Jok have joined, and I imagine it has a lot to do with knowing the quality of teammates and players Gesell and Woodbury are. I can see Uthoff wanting to leave wisconsin, but I doubt he would of went to Iowa without knowing Gesell and Woodbury were going to be there.
