When was the last time the Hawks...

Beat MSU @ East Lansing. Also when was the last time the Hawks beat OSU @ the shoe?

I do not remember EVER beating OSU at their house. And I know its been close to a decade since we won at EL. Point being, I think people are a bit ahead of themselves on the National Championship talk. Teams improve and evolve over the season and the jury is still out on what kind of team we are going to be going into Columbus.... let alone this week in EL. We are having a kickass season and I'm enjoying every second. But one game at a time...please!!

A quick note on the 1991 win at the 'Shoe: It came the day after the Gang Lu killings on the UI campus that claimed three profs, a fellow doctoral student, an administrator and himself and paralizing Mia Rodolfo Siossen, who recently passed away from complications to pneumonia, iirc. I remember where I was when I heard the news about the shooting. I was a freshman at the UI playing pool in the main lounge at Mayflower when Pete Seyferts made the announcement on KGAN. Luckily, the president at the time, Hunter Rawlings III, was on his way to Columbus that day and was out of harm's way. Hayden had the decals removed from the helmets, and the Hawks won that game.

Counting the 1995 victory Iowa is 6-4 against MSU. The two teams did not 4 years during that time. Iowa has not won since 1995 but have only lost 4 times there. So the streak of losing is not as long as it sounds.

Plus, look at the losses up there, 2003 we lost the season opener and Chandler hadn't had enough time to work with Ken, had we played them later in the year, we would have won and 2008 was Ricky's first road start and he hadn't had enough time to work with Ken, either. Ken called that brilliant QB sneak deep in the red zone on second and one because he didn't want to wear Shonn out by feeding him the ball too much and Ricky fumbled it and we ended up losing by 3. This year will be different because now we have two tailbacks and we won't have to worry about Stanzi fumbling QB sneaks because we can actually rely on our tailbacks to stay up for the whole game. Basically, I think the loss came down to Ken's concern about keeping Shonn fresh, so I would put the L squarely on Shonn's shoulders. This year is kind of addition by subtraction in that regard.

Hawks 31

MSU 10
