When was the last time IA d got off the field in crunch time in big game?

Also can't believe how many yards d line gave up on 1st down. Really all phases did just enough to lose game.

remember when special teams was a strength of this team, not the weakest link? Is this a "remember when..." thread?

REMEMBER WHEN IOWA WOULD RUN A PLAY ACTION PASS DEEP TO THE TE OVER THE MIDDLE ON 2ND AND SHORT? THAT WAS WAY COOLER THAN RUNNING IT INTO A 8 MAN FRONT.

I remember when Iowa would beat Wisconsin by 30. I also remember when Hayden Fry wouldn't put up with this shit and get after his team. Guess what??? They usually responded. I also remember you could buy a beer for a quarter.

MSU, PSU, and now this. Same narrative, different year. Defense played well, but you gotta deliver when it counts, and Iowa doesn’t.

Somebody else rightfully pointed out...last night...our best player (future NFL) DE on the sidelines during the last Wisky run. No blitzing. Daring Wisky to beat us with vanilla and without our best player playing. Well, they did.

The hawks have done this to other teams, some very good other teams, 08 psu, mich, 09 msu, and others including several times in OT. But our defense is not great at this aspect because they have this bend but dont break philosophy for 60 minutes.

It is hard to go into penetration and blitzing mode trying to throw the other team for a big loss which is what is needed in a do or die last minute drive type of situation.

Leonhard certainly turned up the pressure on Iowa's last two or three drives when we started to turtle. And it worked. You know what that is? Coaching.

They got Taylor isolated a LB when they needed the go ahead TD, perhaps had been trying to set it up all night. You know what that is? Coaching.

Yes, we have seen this unfold before to a point. Leonhard knew we would probably be more conservative but on the first possession last nite in the 4th qtr BF called that pass play on first down from about the 20 where Nate overthrew Hockenson. That miss was a killer.

But overall you are right as Iowa goes stale on offense too many times with a lead in the second half.

And many you are right about our Lbkrs on wideouts. I watched wisky get us into that situation a few times and catch us with it and they really used it at a key time to win the game.

It is hindsight but right before that TD throw I was thinking with a minute to go, wisky had just burned their 2nd time out IIRC, that they probably couldnt run the ball for a td without a big run.

I was wondering if Parker would put in another dback or a safety at least to guard a wide receiver.

Killer overthrow. You could sense in the the stadium. I'm thinking to myself, we are going to overcome all these mistakes and somehow survive this. The doubt started creeping in as soon as Nate overthrew TJ.

Here's another sign of good coaching. Chryst had a couple chances to go on fourth down near midfield in the fourth quarter. He punted. He completely trusted his defense, and his DC. I think he was initially playing for the tie on that long drive. But when they got in the red zone he thought TD.

Iowa state game this season?
Although Iowa St is a game you don't want to lose for the embarrassment factor, Iowa St is not a National Spotlight game. Iowa should beat the clowns year in and year out.

So, I don't consider ISU to be a "Big Game." Wisconsin, Ohio St, Penn St, those are big games.....the with Alabama's of the world above that.
