Since teams are now guarding tighter on the perimeter, there ARE more chances for driving. The problem is that Iowa's players apparently don't get much coaching on shot-faking from the perimeter. Weezy is a good shooter and he's learned he has to drive more, but he doesn't shot-fake...he makes up his mind when the pass is coming to him and he takes off on the dribble as soon as he catches the ball if someone is closing on him. Since they have to respect his shot, a pump fake would be brutal for any defender and would leave him with 1) a 3 shot foul; 2) a clear 3 pt shot as the defender goes flying past; or 3) a clearer path to the basket. Think about it: how many 3 pt shot fakes have you seen from JBo, Moss, Baer and Weezy the last 5 games as defenses clamp down? This is a practiced skill, and they should be perfecting it every day.
