Whats with new posters?

Let me start by saying i'm not calling out any other posters by name and I'm not trying to pick on people with low post counts. Now that being said I don't understand why some newer people to this site are coming out in their first 5 posts or so with outlandish threads causing problems. Maybe its just me?I know I'm not HN veteran by any means and feel free to correct me. I'm not saying all new posters are bad but I don't want another Slez to emerge. Just want people to be as rational and reasonable as possible to avoid conflict. Were all hawks here! Go Hawks.
 
I read on here everyday but rarely post. That being said, I would agree that people need to step away from the ledge and think before hitting send sometimes.
 
People, and I'll throw out the name of Darth Kinnick, are just trying to stir the pot, get people riled up. Some are most likely fans of other schools and that is why the low number of posts. You just have to respond with some sort of logic, though they won't get it, and if that fails, there is a nice IGNORE function on this site.
 
It seems like there is a contagion when it comes to the doomsday approach that many are having with the football program.

I think Iowa will be fine, and we all need to chill out.

more long time posters that believe this than new. or maybe some of the long time posters are making new accounts to 'bolster' their position......

No problem. I don't mind calling people out when they are being dumb and trying to stir the pot, and if I ever do it I hope someone calls Shenanigans on me.
 
I think it's because we aren't allowed to say c**d or ost***h anymore, so now, new posters feel comfortable :)

That's funny but I'm not sure I miss it all that much. Troll and clown are still acceptable though so go crazy.
 
some want instant gratification. some have been "fans" since about 2002. That, and "want" the kind of success that we had 2002-2004. They pay no mind to history, realistic expectations, and common sense.

I want it NOW..."stops foot"

7 wins is average, 8 wins is good, 9 wins is great, 10+ wins is AWESOME(and isn't going to happen often).

and one of my favs.....gonna use it a lot.... "these malcontents can poop in one hand and complain in the other and see which hand fills up faster"

I'm guessing this might also be the re-appearing of people who were banned in the back half of December (under new names) for rumor spreading and less than desirable treatment of scandals such as PSU, Syracuse. It is getting less and less desirable to even read the posts let alone participate. The ignore function is going to be getting plenty of use.
 
well i`m long time reader of hawkeyenation and forgive me if i give wierd posts on this board. sorry for that i so much want to be part of this hawkeye family. i know my grammers suck and i blame on being deafmy whole life. please be patient with me...
 
Maybe these are the people that Jon felt were being scared off by some of the more tenured posters?
 
What you have to understand is that it is incredibly easy (and free) to post on this board. So you end up with a ton of trolls pretending to be Iowa fans (or not even pretending) and a bunch of younger fans (twenty-somethings and below) who honestly think we should win 10 games every year because we did it several times during their short lifetimes.

You just have to ignore the ridiculous posts and trolls, but I admit it is hard to do sometimes.
 
I have been reading hawkeyenation for years but never posted until I couldn't take it anymore. People like ferentz4ever going on every single post on the board saying fire kirk, he is terrible, he is over paid... Iowa is at best the 5th best job in the big ten and he has us competing for the big ten almost every year. reality is we are one bad fire and one bad hire away from being isu or Minnesota.

I have been an avid Hawkeye fan for over 50 years. I have been through both thick and thin. While I am a new poster to this board, that reason alone does not automatically discount the value of my experience, insight, or opinion.

There are many posters on this board that clearly understand the game, and I respect them for that. However, there are also plenty of hooligans that try to stir the pot at any and every opportunity.

That said, I will not tolerate a hooligan attempting to belittle me based solely on my post count. If they persist, I will defend my opportunity to participate on this forum with vigor (and the silent majority will cheer).

I think the adjustments that Jon made late last year was an acknowledgement of that opportunity for new posters, and I thank him for that.

I acknowledge that some new posters have been emboldened and attempted to assume the role of Devil's advocate, but that's nature. It abhors a vacuum.
