What's the analysis on May?

I don't get it.

I thought he was supposed to get better under Fran.

It isn't happening.

You can write this one off all you want, think up every excuse, but his lack of progress is not a good thing.

6 of the last 8 games he has scored 3 points or less.

Concerning.

He's had enough chances to make an impact and has not done the job. Marble is surging and deserves more time at his natural 2 position. May's limited skill set and energy would be better served as a 6th man coming off of the bench.

The best 3 Hawkeye players against Michigan were Basabe, Cartwright and Marble. This also happens to be the 3 that were not coached by Lickliter... coincidence? The holdovers are still playing very hesitantly/methodically as if they are in a system based upon ill conceived statistical percentages that compute that a 3 pt shot should never be taken unless there is less than 5 seconds on the shot clock and that the other team should be allowed open 3's at anytime as it is a BAD shot.

Not trying to be a flamer on Lickliter, but I think he ruined what game they had. No player ever improved under Lickliter. Gatens, May, Cole, etc were all better as freshman.

Did you hear the announcer on B10N today vs. Michigan when he said Iowa will be in the upper half of the Big Ten next year? Hmmm

It is time to start Marble and bring in McCabe and May for Marble and Gatens early, then bring in Marble after a short break for Cartwright and keep that cycle going.

Marble is improving, May isn't... for whatever reason. Physical Injury or Mental Difficulties, he is struggling either way and it is costing the team.

Marble, Basabe, Cartwright, Gatens and Cole should be the starting line-up.

I like the idea of bringing May and McCabe off the bench too... worth trying something different.

I think Fran would have done this a few games ago if it weren't for our lack of depth at point. Fran has said Marble playing the point is hindering his development but at some point I think you start playing for the future. Will bryce get gassed? Probably, but what is the difference between 8 or 9 wins this season. Build for next year. Hell if it weren't for Cole being a senior i would even start Brommer just to get him some starters minutes. As scary as that sounds he is the leader for who gets to start at center next year, assuming Fran doesnt reel in an impact player or he goes small with a White/McCabe and Basabe front court.

Any notable differences in May's style of play that allowed him to be efficient shooting the ball?

Were they and 1's... was he driving to the hoop.... being aggressive....

4-5 from the field....11 points...... take that certainly over his recent performances!

As I recall, Eric had a nice pull-up jumper from close to the elbow along with a layup off MSU turnover. In the second half he had another thunderous dunk that really helped get the crowd back into the game. I don't recall the 4th bucket but the missed attempt was a pull-up jumper in the lane during the second half in which he got blocked.
