Whats Next For Lebron?

Yea, how do you swing and miss on guys like that? I guess I wasn't old enough to remember the Jordan draft, but the Oden Vs Durant argument never made sense to me. Durant did things at Texas that Oden never did at tOSU. Almost as bad as the Darko over Melo pick by Detroit too. How many more championships could Detriot have won if they wouldn't have blown that pick? One of the greatest what-if's in NBA history.

Oden was hurt almost his entire season at Ohio St and shot left handed for a large chunk of the season. He also had a beast of a game in the national title game against Noah and Horford. It's easy to look back and say that yeah obviously Durant should go first, but at the time it was real close. The Darko over Melo, (and Wade and Bosh) is a lot worse of a pick. I guess Dumars thought since they had just won a title he didn't need anyone who would play right away and could take a chance on the potential of Darko. Obvioulsy that was a huge mistake, but hey the Pistons have Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva now, they'll be back winning titles in no time haha.

I think its funny how analysts compare a player today with a player that played 50 years ago like thats a good thing. Russell would get owned in today's League.

Russell would be owned? You're talking about an 11x NBA championship winner who won those titles over Wilt Chamberlain who's arguably the best basketball player ever...I don't think he'd get owned even though he was only 6'9" or 6'10". He handled Wilt (7'1") for basically his whole career.

Chamberlain would also get owned. I am basing this on if these players brought their same 1960's skills to the game today. They would get destroyed. Their 1960's basketball brains just could not comprehend what they are dealing with.

I understand that Oden was hurt, but isn't that a red flag? That plus the fact that he already looked like he was in his 50s? Horford and Noah were good college players, but hardly elite. Even looking at them now Horford is a very undersized C and Noah really isn't anything other than an energy/rebounding guy. Even at the time I didn't think it was the right pick. Durant wowed me every time he touched the ball when he'd be on TV. You could see the potential for the Next LeBron in Durant while you had to hope for the next Shaq in Oden. Plus as was mentioned earlier the track record for #1 pick big men lately isn't stellar. Howard is one of the few success stories and even he's limited on the offensive end.

Horford and Noah were not elite college players? What are you talking about? They were lottery picks on a back to back national championship team. Noah was the Final Four MOP, what more do they need to do to be elite? And Horford is an undersized center but he's also an all star and Noah is a damn good player, how many guys averaged double doubles in the NBA this season? Not many, and he's one of them.

I meant they aren't elite NBA talents. That doesn't mean they're not good players, it just means that no one will confuse either of them as the best at their position. I know they're both young, but Noah has been next to worthless until this year (Avg 6.7 pts, 4 rbs/game 1st 2 years). Noah did avg a double-double this year which is good. As far as Oden dominating them, until this year Noah wasn't really regarded as a good defender. Horford isn't a good defender...he finished behind the infamous Joel Anthony in blocks this year (most key factor for big man D in my opinion). Considering that Noah just became an good defender this year I dont' see how Oden dominating them in college means as much as you make it seem especially since he's got height advantage and more than more than 40 lbs on both of them. On the lottery pick item, they were, but if you look at that years draft it wasn't really amounted to much outside of Durant. They both were obviously good college players, but they were successful because of the team they had not just because of those 2 guys.
