what year do you think jok becomes a starter at iowa?

I really like Jok. I have seen him play several times at Valley. He has had issues with injuries, but he has a huge upside. I know you gave 5 options, but here are my thoughts.

I think he will be much better than people realize his freshman year. There will be some growing pains (and I don't think he will be all BIG freshman good) but more than decent. Uthoff and Jok will work well together.

I see a breakout year for Jok in his sophmore year when Marble is gone. He will have had more time in the system and another year removed from some of his injuries from high school. I think Uthoff and Jok will average 12-14 ppg and 6/7 rebounds each for the 2014 season.

These are high expectations, but I think Jok and Uthoff have the talent for that to happen.

I agree that those are high expectations and I agree that they have the talent to reach them. Those two players have loads of talent. And their skills make me think they will both become starters when white is a senior. Which means they would be at the 2 and 3 spots. Which to me makes clemmons the 6th man and he would probably be the best 6th man in the league.

Can't believe Fran got him to come to Iowa...even with that one other offer he had from Drake. If he's the best recruit Fran brings in we're in serious trouble

You have chimed in on every Jok post with your negative comments. Why don't you just come clean and tell us exactly why you hate him so much?

This is what I'm hoping for. I think our ceiling is only so high with Clemmons as our starter. If Gesell is our starting point guard we will be way better offensively. It would also mean we have a very good bench.

He is a troll and he never responds with anything other than "I don't by the hype, look at his offer list."

Really hope Jok is as good as advertised. If so, then he will most likely be starting by his Soph yr.
Hope that Valley makes a run in the State tourney this year so that I can see how Jok performs against better competition. I know their are a couple players on the East side of the state that would love to have a chance to match up against him.

Very well said, I just think some people tend to forget it's a big IF and not a guarantee. You're 100% correct though.

It's a big if, but if he doesn't get it back, then he won't be the best recruit of Fran's tenure. He'll be a sniper at worst, so he won't be a bad recruit. But there have been and will be better recruits under Fran if that's the case.

I think he doesn't start til Marble gradiates.

I think the starting lineup next year will be very close to this year, with Basabe, Jok, Uthoff, and McCabe of the bench.

2014 will be Clemmons, Gesell, Jok, White, and Woody.

Completely agree here.

If Basabe plays well as a starter for the rest of this season, it may be tough to take him out of there, but other than that, I think you are spot on here.

I went and watched him play at Waukee last night. He was pretty unimpressive. He only had 2 at half and sat most of the second after picking up a quick 2nd foul on a bad call. He came in and scored on a 3, dunk on a run out and a nice pull up in the lane to have 9 after the 3rd. He ended up with 15 as he hit 6 FT at the end of the game to put the game away.

Overall he didn't do much, and didn't appear to try to do much. I don't know if he took even 10 shot attempts. He only went to the basket one time and lost the ball and got fouled. He had a couple bad turnovers towards the end of the game once losing the dribble off his leg or foot for a back court violation. It really wasn't a great game to gauge how good he is. Waukee clearly was trying to limit him. He guarded a big for Waukee so I didn't get to see him guard on the perimeter. He did have a bunch of rebounds in the first half before he got that 2nd foul and sat the remainder though.

The last thing I would be worried about is Iowas ceiling with Clemmons at PG. Every other position is more of a question mark.

If Clemons is the starter for the next 3 years the point guard position will be a strength. He already has one of the best a/to ratios in the conference and is shooting %33 from the arc and he is the teams best defender as a freshman.

I would be way more worried about the 2 and 3 spots.

IMHO, I see Gesell playing the 2 with Clemmons being the pg and Iowa forgetting who JO is the next couple years.

Jok does one thing better than any player on Iowa's roster right now - shoot the ball from distance. He'll get plenty of playing time, even if he doesn't start, although I see it happening in his soph. year.

I'm far from a troll, I went to Iowa and have season basketball and football tickets. I have nothing against him but I follow the other school in the state as well and they have two top 100 4* kids coming in and they don't talk about them half as much as we talk about Jok. People start threads about when a guy that had one BCS offer is going to crack the starting lineup...either there's that big of talent gap between them and us or the kid is getting overhyped. Either way it's played out

I've read that last night was pretty much his worst game of the year, yet he was still able to put up 15 in limited minutes, so that's not a bad worst game. With school canceled yesterday, I imagine his normal game routine was a little off, so I'm not surprised that he started the game out of rhythm.

So if Harrison Barnes hurt his knee and everyone quit recruiting him, you wouldn't be excited if chose isu?

Guess I don't see your point as I'm not an ISU fan...all I'm saying is if other schools wanted him they would have offered him plain and simple. Not like Fran is seeing something different than any other college coaches are. Kids get hurt all the time and schools still go after them. If Harrison Barnes hurts his knee I guess my logical thinking is he wouldn't have to narrow it down between us and Drake. Fran has a pretty good track record of over hyping his players and it gets old, I'm just saying as a fan it gets old when threads like this start. The kid is a big IF that is all

I have pretty much avoided Jok posts/threads since Big Pete's sophomore year. I've been around him and watched him play since he was 14. My son was a year ahead of Big Pete at Roosevelt...Jok's high school through his sophomore year. I've also seen him play at Valley. I'll share my thoughts once and then go silent again.

I absolutely did not want Iowa to offer Big Pete. I like him (the kid and his game) but he was injury prone. He had a back injury when he was 14. He had a wrist/arm injury that shut him down for awhile after that. Most everyone knows about the knee issues. Iowa couldn't roll the dice and risk him being hurt his entire career at Iowa.

I've always known he could play...when healthy. I was thrilled when Big Pete committed. Iowa now has enough talent on the roster to take a chance on Big Pete...even if he does get hurt. There are other guys that can step in and play if we have to sit him. The upside is unlimited...NBA caliber if he returns to his old form. Even if he doesn't return to his old form he's a good addition.

Big Pete can shoot the 3. He can make free throws. He's taller than Josh. Imagine the nightmare for opposing teams if JO starts hitting his 3's (40%) after an off season to clear his head and Big Pete is launching them from the opposite side (40%) with our penetrating PG's and quality big men.

It's unknown whether Big Pete will return 100% from injury. He would have many offers from major programs nationally if this was a given. Even if he is at his current level of athleticism with the quality coaching he will receive it's a great get. Think White and Clemmons.

So you're saying you like big Peter?

And with that, the Big Pete drinking game is complete and I shall now pass out.
