what we learned from the nebraska game

1) Iowa has incredible heart and fight
2) Fran took a time out at exactly at the right time in the second half to stop Nebraska
momentum
3) The defense has significantly improved
4) Jok is amazing and they are figuring out to get everyone else involved first and use Jok later
5) Moss is going to be Great
6) Bohanan will be great as he matures
7) This team is starting to develop chemistry
8) last year I would get frustrated as the team seemed to play with no emotion sometimes this team plays to win

And...

Even with new players, Fran's teams seem to collapse under pressure too often.

Our PG was schooled. Need a PG. (I like JB...but as another PG)

Winning teams take advantage of breaks...like multiple missed free throws...Iowa didn't.

Cook can absolutely launch...for a tomahawk jam.

How did you come up with number 6?

I agree they have collapsed in the past I do not think taking a team that already beat Maryland and Indiana to two overtimes at their home court is collapsing under pressure.

Surprised we couldn't hold/add to the lead in first OT, up four with the ball. Pretty disappointing.

Other than the game was in their hands, late...ahead 4...with the ball...can't get shots off...that, is a collapse.

Such opportunities on the road don't come by that often...winners win them, losers don't.

One can "feel" good for the effort...but in the end...well, such things aren't considered when trying to get into the NCAA.

9. As in past years, can't execute offensively or get stops during crunch time.

They actually executed quite a bit at the end of the game. It just didn't pan out. This wasn't a game where we couldn't make a single play the last 2 minutes and blew a 6 point lead. This was a game where both teams made multiple plays on both ends of the court and eventually one team had to win.

We have waaaay too many games that we control at the end and then give away with dumb plays.

Sorry that has to fall on the coach when it happens year after year.

Most games come down to the end - one team wins, one team loses. This is one of the youngest teams in all D1 - they will learn to win - they will learn to be clutch - that was a tough atmosphere against a team playing as well as anyone in the country. Hawks played with moxie - in the end too many turnovers late and Nebraska got some home cooking to help seal the deal. Them the breaks on the road.

I thought Iowa fought through a bad game pretty well. They played a crazy sloppy game and turned the ball over 19 times (5 by Jok, 4 by Pemsl, 3 by Jordan) They didn't have an answer for Watson's crazy hot game, but still found a way to get into OT. I thought they were out of it when they fell behind by 9, but they fought back.

The only really big negative that you hate to see was Iowa had the ball and a 4 point lead in OT with under 1 minute to play. Jok missed an easy shot, and Pemsl turned it over, and we let Nebraska force OT number 2. You fought your way back into the game, gotta hold on in OT.

I wish we could find a way to get Baer and Cook in together at the end of games. Baer just makes things happen and you need him in there, but having Cooks talent wouldn't hurt either. JoBo, Jok, Baer, cook, CP would be a nice lineup but there are some defensive problems there.

I thought he played defense better for most of the game, until he ran out of gas. Then his defense was lacking, yes.

I don't get why Fran wasn't switching him out and bringing in a better defender at the end of 1st OT as he couldn't guard anybody.

That may have been a good idea once Jok got his 4th foul. Fran could have used his unused timeouts to sub Pete back in the game if there was not a play stoppage. Don't forget, Jok is the 2nd leading rebounder on the team and you want him to get fouled because he doesn't miss many FTs.

Just thought they got into a half court game much more in the overtimes instead of moving the ball around and keeping the pace up as they did the majority of regulation. We have several good weapons, it doesn't have to be Jok on his own in these close finishes. He still has some issues when handling the ball especially under pressure.

No real complaints......... exciting game, played hard, and they are fun to watch.
