What was your preseason prediction?

IIRC I said 7-5, I missed on NIU and Mich St because I thought we should cream NIUs young defense which we did in the first half and I did not know MSU would be so good on defense and find their QB just in time for the hawks.

I may have had us beating wisky also. What ever I did not having us beating Nebby because of martinez's speed and their team speed.

But 8-4 and really throttling the clowns, minny, purdue, and really nebby, and really controlling michigan , and a couple wins we should get made this season great so far.

My prediction was 9-3 per my signature...and the surprise is definite reality. I had us winning the NIU game, but losing the three we did. If that f*%&$*king Greg Davis would have run the ball in the second half against NIU, we would have won that one too. Would I have won something for completely predicting correct? No, ok, well I just want the haters to stew on this year for awhile. Injuries killed last years team and what was left of the offensive line couldn't overcome the poor play selection with execution.

I said that we would be better than last year. I'm not sure I posted it, but I thought 6 wins. They have played much better this year than I thought they would.

6-6 and had northern Illinois as a win in this original prediction. but changed to 7-5 after the ISU game due to being impressed with jakes play at QB.

Pretty sure I said 8-4, but maybe I said 7-5? Who's going to dig up the various prediction threads we had at the start of the season and analyze everyone's predictions? NOT IT!

I remember your 9-3 prediction. I thought you were nuts! Glad Iowa came closer to your prediction than mine!

After watching the debacle that was the Iowa 2012 offense, I was convinced that this year would end in a 2-10 season if the coaching staff insisted on running Horizontal Offense Version 2.0 again this year.

Even though the Hawks lost their home opener, I was pleasantly surprised to see a non-horizontal offensive philosophy and an energized defensive effort, even in a losing cause. So the coaches and players put "negative Nancy's" like me on notice at the very start of the season that 2013 would be nothing like 2012.

So, my prediction based "solely" on 2012's shortcomings was way off because the coaches and players decided to play this team's brand of football for 2013. Congratulations to all of them! And I have never been so happy to be so wrong.

In the future, if anyone needs a wildly pessimistic prediction, for a small fee, let me know...

On a serious note, this team really has been a great joy to watch compete, I hope they can continue this upward trajectory through the bowl game and into next season!

I don't remember my prediction off hand, but I do know it was sub .500. Pleasantly surprised. Would love to see a bowl win to top it off. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Nebby committed 3 TO's and still had a chance in the 4th with a team full of injuries. A bowl game for us could still be ugly (I'm trying to continue the pessimism so we get a W).

4-8. I got it backwards. I thought an inexperienced QB and a new center and question marks on defense would be issues. As it turned out, none of those things were big factors. Rudock is very solid and will be better next year. As a matter of fact, for 2014, I am now predicting 11-1 and a bowl loss.

7-5

Based on the schedule........At the time i thought it was backloaded.

Maybe I should start a new thread patting myself on back on my prediction and calling out people who were waaay off(I'm kidding).

I went with the safe, middle of the road pick of 6-6 while a lot of others made knee jerk reactions to last year and went negative. I'll admit there were some moments where I didn't see Iowa getting to six wins. But there are others here that predicted 8 wins. My brother being one (your $10 is on the way). In my best optimism I couldn't see where the 2 extra wins were going to come from. I could stretch to 7-5 but 8-4? No. Couldn't do it.

I did think Iowa had a shot at going 5-0 but they went 4-1. I thought there was a good shot at Michigan State. But Ohio State and Wisconsin were always losses. After the MSU loss I thought it was going to go down hill and Iowa would be lucky to pick up another win. But after Ohio State more wins started to seem possible.

Beating Nebraska, Michigan and Northwestern in the same year is a really good year. One is because Iowa hadn't beat Nebraska since Nebraska joined the B1G. Two. It was in Nebraska. Three. it was a solid win three TD win. Four. If Iowa wants respect they get it by beating the top programs. Nebraska is a top program.

And Northwestern because it felt good to get a win back on them. They were really becoming a thorn. Michigan, because well...They are Michigan and it's good to beat them.

Honestly can't remember but I do not think it was for a very good season. With Iowa, it is usually a something like somewhere between 2-10 and 10-2 because every game seems to be winnable and losable.
Pleased as hell with how it turned out and not ashamed to admit I predicted worse.

The Iowa defense is good enough to keep any bowl game we might be in, close.
Nobody we play will be as good as OSU and we damn near won that thing.

I predicted 7 wins if we lost to NIU, 8 wins if we beat NIU (thought NIU was a big toss-up)

But I did NOT think we would get to 8 after the Wisconsin game, I have to admit that. I thought we'd be lucky to get to 7. Scary to think of how close we were to 9!
