What Recruits/Signees Stay at Iowa if Lick is Fired

Hypothetically, who stays?

Brust
Larson
McCabe
Marble

I think Marble stays, as he likes the school and aura of being a lecacy.
Brust has been nothing but a Hawkeye through and through since committing, I think he stays.
If Cougill stays, I'd think McCabe would stay Iowa too.
I don't know about Larson.

Thoughts?

They all stay most do...especially if we make a good hire. I really believe Barta has a list and it starts with Bruce Pearl (not my favorite) and move down the line. I believe an assistant or two will be contacted.

I hope they all stay.....and as a Lick supporter.....why am I anxious over the rumor of his alleged and impending firing?

If the next coach plays an uptempo, fast paced type of offense then I think all would stay. But this rumored firing won't take place, therefore, no need to worry.

I also think they all stay if we move relatively decisively on a new hire. If the new hire cannot convince these kids to stick, we probably got the wrong new hire, imo.
I really think that this group of kids committed to Iowa more than Lick. I suppose Larson is the wildcard, but considering his issues in his HS, I would think he would be more likely to remain loyal to Iowa since they are remaining loyal to him.

Dairese Gary was a SA guy, thru and thru. That whole Indiana icon deal, imo.
I just do not sense that these kids are totally tied to lick...and he probably would not have a school for them to follow him to anyway..
I suppose larson could draw some interest from around the country...but I think they stick.

So what you're saying is HE GONE!

It all depends on what coach is brought in and the system. I could see Brust and Larson leaving rather quickly though potentially...

Now let me try and answer the question:

If we bring in a coach that is currently on the recruiting trail and has players that can be instant impact type, we have one available scholly + the 4 current schollies to work with making it 5 schollies for the incoming coach. I think Marble loses his and probably Larson. Brust stays and McCabe stays and the new coach brings in three players that are going to be in the starting lineup in year 1. Guys like May, Gatens and Fuller will be moved to their correct positions. Cole becomes a role player. Cougill is pretty much done with PT at Iowa and may be 'asked' to transfer depending on schollies needed.

Lil' Lick transfers.

I think it depends on the new coach and how quickly they are hired. A quick hire would go a long way as far as damage control. I tend to think they all stay.

I also had someone tell me that none of the incoming recruits had other Big Ten offers. Is that true? If so, that makes me feel better about them not going anywhere

First of all, none of the incoming recruits are going to lose their rides. They have already signed letters haven't they? Regardless, Iowa doesn't work that way. All of these recruits will be allowed to play for Iowa. And all of them will be let out of their LOI's if they feel it is in their best interest.

If I understand correctly they all signed their LOI's, so wouldn't Iowa have to release them and then they could sign somewhere else?

If anything happens, the answer to the question could depend on both the reason for Lick's departure and the identity of his replacement.

To leave without penalty would require a release, but Iowa would give them their release if the past is any indication. Normally that comes from the incoming coach.

Larson is the only one I think might consider another school, because I think he actually came to play for Lick. However, with the negative stories surrounding him recently, I doubt he would have a whole lot of major school offers, so I think he would stay too.

Let's get the rules straight. It is not the players' decision! Unless, Iowa releases any of the four from their letter-of-intent, they will have to attend Iowa next year to play NCAA basketball.

Cully asked for and was granted a release from his letter-of-intent with Auburn. Otherwise, Cully would have played at Auburn or a junior college this year. By NCAA regulations, the only four players guaranteed a scholarship for next year are the four incoming recruits.

Even if a new coach doesn't want any of the four, he has to honor the letter-of-intent. Of course, that is if they don't ask for a release. Instead, of speculating on this crap, the question should be: Who will a new coach jettison to free up scholarships? Just ask Bawinkle about a new coach pulling your scholarship!

Let's get the facts straight

Cully never requested his release from Auburn

Cully never received a release from Auburn

Cully was never going to attend Auburn

Cully was never going to play for Auburn
