What play do you wish Iowa would run?

I wish Iowa would run more victory formations with Stanzi taking a knee.......or it could be Vandenberg taking the knee because that means we have the game in hand.

Definitely the jailbreak. I wish we could see the QB draw too, but we don't have the personel to run that any time soon.

I would like to see a few more pass plays to our RB's a game, in particular, downfield a bit maybe 10-15 yrds or so. I think this add a little more needed diversity to the O & could get the D a bit more off balance.

With the stated above I would like to see Morse get 3-4 touches a game either by carrying or receiving. If they could pass to him a few times a game, this will also make the O a little more diverse. They do pass to him on the goal line. They did start out the Penn St game with a pass to him, but that was the only time they used it. I would like to see it done a couple times in the middle of the field.

They don't have to come up with any new plays, just run a few more of what they have.

I also would like to see them get Chaney a couple touches a game in the open just to see if he could break one with his speed.

That's my wish list.

I liked the old Commings-era fake punt, where the punter jumps and turns as though the snap went past him. Meanwhile, the back that actually got the ball stays put until a hole opens up. Once a season is plenty, though. ;)

Also seriously, I realize KF is not a gimmick kind of guy, but I would really like to see a play action flea-flicker once in a blue moon. When the running game gets going, this could be real effective, especially if the line is blocking well.

It actually is not that risky of a play & Iowa never runs it so I would presume it could be quite effective with a senior QB if it is sprung on a team. Do it on a 2nd & short & give it a try, if it's not there just throw the ball away.

There is nothing more nerveracking then seeing it done on the team you are a fan of. It seems the ball hangs in the air for 5 seconds & waiting to see the outcome.

no naked bootleg!!!!! - at least not in your own endzone.

/resisting urge to correct this post...

For this year and years to come, I think we've got the depth at TE to run the 2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB (12 personnel) grouping effectively, with Rogers being interchangeable at that RB position. It's a formation that:

* Forces a defense to cover 8 run gaps while also aware to the possibility of 4 immediate downfield passing threats.

* TE's will be covered by either a LB (mismatch because of our athleticism at TE) or a S (mismatch in size), or in zone a TE can "post up" over the middle as a great checkdown option and due to their size, are able to box out almost any other defensive player on the field. A good throw by the QB away from the defender is an easy 5-7 yards (in theory).

* With the blocking prowess that our TE's generally possess, any team that does try to put a smaller package on the field (nickel specifically) is going to give up run support capabilities.

* Teams that stack 8 in the box (again, in theory) can be handled because if we leave the backside DE/overhang player unblocked, he might make a TFL early, but we'll run bootleg sooner or later for a potentially big play.

It's just a very good formation, whether you split 1 WR to each side, or use twins to the field, which actually results in a Trey (trips) formation. The WR's can still be used to run motion, and if any team is crowding our WR's on their release, this is a good way to free them up a bit.

**Edit - I should point out that I realize we run this formation some now, but we don't leave the TE's both on the LOS pre-snap. Often times, one of them will step off and go in motion...if he motions all the way over, we still have 8 gaps, but we are no longer balanced.

I second that flea flicker call. Throw it up to DJK or MM deep. We haven't shown it in a looooong time. Worked to start out against OSU in 1990.

I want to see Daniels get the ball on the 2nd & Goal from the 2 yard line and just blast the safety trying to tackle him. Get that guy a 2-3 yard head-of-steam, and he'll blow up anyone in his way.

It'll never happen, but I think it'd be fun to see.

Flea Flicker, I love it. The best thing is it isn't really a dangerous play. If the deep ball isn't open stanzi just throws it past everybody.
