What Penn State should do.....

I think people just want jay paterno (and the rest of the paterno family and apologists) to stfu now. Nobody cares if he publicly acknowledges his father's crimes. He just needs to shut up and go away.

Bingo. but as long as microphones are thrust in their face it looks like it's hard for them to bite their tounge. Next question. To what degree does NCAA jump in.

Saw this on another site: They're not going to take the Paterno statue down. They're going to simply rotate it 180 degrees so he can continue to look the other way.

When the former director of the FBI releases a report says your dad helped enable a pedofile for almost 14 you shouldn't insult everyone's intelligence by saying he is innocent.

All good and ready-made arguments. But again, THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA ALLOWED PIERRE PIERCE TO REDSHIRT IN THE WAKE OF A RAPE ACCUSATION.

Help me out here, where's our moral high ground?

Help me out, I must have forgotten some things.

So Pierce was a serial rapist who brought his victims to the Iowa athletic facilities where he raped them. Then once this was discovered Iowa's president, AD, head basketball coach, and others worked to conceal these crimes to ensure no bad publicity for the basketball program for 14 years after the fact while he continued to bring victims to university facilities and functions.

Does that sound about right?

The sarcasm in this post pretty much sums up my opinion as well Bob. Pierre Pierce was one player who was an idiot. I don't remember the specifics of the situation honestly. It's difficult for any University to do anything regarding discipline to an athlete until they are proven guilty. If Pierce hadn't been proven guilty yet, then I can understand why he just wasn't allowed to play (I'm in my mid-twenties now, I watched Iowa bball back then but I didn't pay near as much attention to it as I do now).

Point is, the situations aren't even remotely the same, so you bringing up Pierce is a joke.

The Big Ten should suspend Penn State from the conference. They can apply for reinstatement when they demonstrate a clearly acceptable level of institutional control.

Will this happen? I doubt it. Delaney would be too concerned about losing TV sets.

The Presidents of the schools and the Board of Regents at each school don't run the show any more. Jim Delaney does.

It is a real shame.

Getting back on topic I think the university should publicy acknowledgment the findings of the Freeh report and try to show some serious regret over what happened. But I doubt they do either. They seem to regret that the cat got out of the bag much more than they regret the years of abuse and the cover up.

When these University presidents start getting emails, letters, etc claiming outrage over this situation and people advocating that their school not associate with PSU in any way, the presidents will be forced to act. If Gordon Gee went to Jim Delany today and said, OSU is no longer willing to play or associate with PSU, they're gone the next day. There's enough public outcry right now, I could see that happening.

Summary: power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely.

I've got a bad feeling that things could get ugly, and not reflect well on Iowa fans (especially factoring in alcohol) when (if?) Penn State comes to Kinnick on October 20. It's a night game to boot.

HIDE YO KIDS!

Does anyone know if or how many victims Sandusky got to after the folks at PSU starting covering up for him?

It will probably be ugly for Penn State at all their away games this year. Hopefully Hawk fans won't look any worse than other Big Ten fans.

I'ma text you to bond me out of the IC clink if I get carried away that day, OK?

No. What I am saying is that we don't "measure" crimes in order to take a morally-superior attitude. The less WE say, the better WE look.

And if you don't think "negotiating a redshirt" in the face of rape allegations is morally repugnant...

The situations don't HAVE to be the same. The point is we are claiming moral high ground. Will we be as stern and severe if an equally-heinous situation occurs at Iowa?

We AREN'T Penn State...but we aren't so perfect, either.

Everyone says the Paterno family needs to pipe down. That could apply to these forums, as well.

We already look plenty high-and-mighty now. I imagine, though, that Iowa City will be no more or less brutal than any other venue PSU visits the next couple seasons.

Of course, it won't be any nworse than Arizona State b-ball fans heckling Steve Kerr about his father's unfortunate death.
