What is your favorite D Lineman Hawkeye All-Time?

Great mentions on the favorite LB's and DB's in Iowa history. How about D Lineman? Been some pretty impressive names. Karras, DeVries, Roth...the names go on and on. Who's yours...

I'll break it down to my starting four from KF era.

Adrian Clayborn: Pure talent and just a beast on the outside
Mitch King : Great at getting off of blocks and always creating pressure in the backfield whether it was a run or pass play. Really made the opposition play faster than they wanted to play.
Jonathan Babineaux: Just a solid performer and constantly brought pressure. (I almost went with Christian Ballard-dude was freakishly athletic)
Matt Roth: Strong and just the right kind of crazy you need in a DE.

There are many great ones but I will have to go with Kampmann due solely to fact that he was on some terrible teams and put forth great effort as well as switched positions. Had a pretty good pro career as well. Many on the list will have the luxury of playing with quite a few really good players. While Kampmann had some good underclassmen on the roster none were at the same caliber they would be later in their careers. Honorable mention would be Devries. If you go back and watch some of the games he played the guy was an animal.
For the record I am not from Aplington or Parkersburg

Tough call. Andre Tippett (yes, he was a Defensive End at Iowa) and Matt Roth were game changers...disrupters.

No debate here. It is Alex Karras. Two time first team All-American, Outland Trophy, Many years All NFL.

In the George Plimpton book, "Paper Lion", he tells tales about Alex and the Detroit Lions. In a preseason game
the starting guard was out for the Green Bay Packers. A rookie started in his place and was asked after the game
what it was like playing against the great Alex Karras. The response was "He's got no moves and he is slow and weak."

Then during the regular season the two teams played again. The Green Bay guard was out so the rookie started in his place. When Green Bay had the ball the first play Karras knocked the guard on his rear, kicked him in the head and said "How'd you like those moves, Assface?"

After his career was over he was the color man on Monday night Football. One game that saw the home team get blown out produced many fans leaving the game early in the driving rain. The camera showed one poor soul up in the
bleachers all alone. The fan spotted the camera and flipped the bird. Karras immediately said, "There's one fan that
thinks they are still number one!"

Mongo!

My favorite was his "University of Mars" reference to Otis Sistrunk's listed college ball team. (U.S. Mars - United States Marines)

Matt Roth.

I admit the obvious choice should be Karras, but I missed his glory days and my main memory of him was that he was on the TV show Webster.
