What is up with KF?

Harty: Robinson learning football is violent sport | Hawk Central

I hate to say it but I am losing some respect for KF. Yeah, I know feel free to rip me but I don't get why he would make the apparent snide comments about a topic everyone in the football world is focusing on lately, and rightly so, and that is Concussions. Your star running back, who has been your heart and soul this season, has been concussed twice in the last three games and the first one was arguably preventable. Just man up KF and while you and the football program are at it why don't you come out and tell us definitively if ARob was concussed? " ... there is no reason to be alarmed in Adam's case..." So having two concussions in the past three games is no reason to be alarmed? Because you say so? What do the doctors say? Why the veil of secrecy? And while we are at it why did it take so long to share information about the extent of Norm's health issues? If Norm and his family requested that then fine but if not then what gives? Maybe it is time to hire a publicist because you owe more to Hawkeye fans than your "no answer" answers. (See his response to the alleged locker room fight as well). The "execution" of your communication needs some work. Is this how they do it in the "NFL"? Doesn't matter. This isn't the NFL.

We don't need to be your friend but don't feel I know you at all. An enigma, wrapped in a mystery, blah, blah, blah.

Yes, I am a Hawkeye fan, and yes, I believe it is OK to be a critical fan. I have never criticized a player but the coaches are paid public employees, have chosen this profession and can be criticized when warranted. They are grown men. The world doesn't end.

Oh yeah, and the Iowa media needs to grow a pair. Pretty sad.

This is why I don't listen to his show on Wednesday nights. You rarely learn anything because it's usually the same vague answers.

I've only listened to that show once, but it actually was alright that time. Soup was the coach fielding calls, and it was interesting to hear what he had to say about the receivers.

From the get go, I said that Jermale Hines deserves to be suspended for a blatant hit to the back of A-Rob's head. Forget the fact that the play was a blatant pass interference, but it is the type of play that the NFL is suspending and fining people for. It was NOT a clean hit. I called 3 call in shows about it and basically received no response and I posted about it here regarding the cheap shot that Hines took. Either the media has ZERO football IQ about this play or they are just plain weak. Hines should not be playing this week.

All true guys. Getting paid big money you darn well better have some answers and if not then I've got some serious reservations about you as a head coach. After time all these coaches get thin skin and don't like to be questioned even when they continue to screw up. Remember Hayden had this issue late in his career too with the coaches like Patterson, Verducci and others that got promoted from within and weren't up to snuff.

I still think the Medical staff and coaching staff brought him back to soon to begin with. When you have a kid , from what we hear, with good character, who within a 2 week period of a concussion is suffering from "academic indigestion" and is suspended. No ones going to fess up to it at this point, but they better do some better cognitive, and out of character evaluations in the future before they clear a player to play following a concussion.

Agree with the general sentiments on this board. It is funny how the coaches have been so conservative when it comes to playing young players, but so unconservative when it comes to playing injured players.

Only if the coaching staff is truly inept in the game day prep and execution. Play Coker and Rogers at RB. Substitute by play not series to make sure you have the best personnel on the field to be successful on any given play, and run plays that have best chance of limiting the negative impact of your weaker players. For instance, if you are in an obvious passing situation, don't line up with the QB right next to a guard that is getting blown up on every play.

The medical staff wouldn't have cleared him if they didn't think he was good to go, and Kirk isn't allowed to play him until he's cleared by the medics.

It's as if people forget that even after Moeaki had been cleared last year that Kirk held him out for another two games.

It's hard to see how this is such a nasty illegal hit while at the same time Robinson was brought back too fast. Here's how I see it.
1. A-Rob is hurt in the 4th quarter of game he should no longer have been involved in.
2. He is fully cleared to play by medical professionals and the coach trusts their opinion.
3. he takes a hit that would have concussed pretty much anyone--whether or not they had had one recently.

I blame the coach for the first one. I blame an aggresive linebacker giving 100% for the second one.

I don't think anyone blames KF for the hit on ARob and the subsequent concussion. I think most of us are upset regarding the rotation at RB. Both during the MSU game and subsequent games.

Also, I think the question of whether ARob's academic issues are related to his former concussion are reasonable.

Finally, the big issue really is ARob's health. He has sold out for this team. I would hate to see him just get too broken down to contribute.

I'm not jumping on the Pat Harty train and agree that KF looks after the safety of his players. I also know that concussions can create a lot of different symptoms, and some can not be identified in a typical medical evaluation. " Academic Indigestion" could certainly be a symptom of a concussion. I think both the medical and coaching staffs in the future may see the correlation.

I can't believe that a Pat Harty column is being used a source of criticism. The guy is on the level of Keeler.

Did you read the Harty column? What is your issue with Harty re this one? He praises KF and the medical staff for putting a player's health above everything and then merely quotes KF and later Matt Bowen regarding his own issues with concussions. Did KF seem miffed about having to answer questions about ARob and his concussion related health issues? If so, why? Why just come out and tell us if he was concussed a second time or not? KF creates his own blowback by his consistently vague answers and in this case came across as a little insensitive in my opinion. I just wish the media would have followed up with a question about his apparent annoyance surrounding ARob's condition. Was he concussed or not? Simple question. And do you notice how when KF is annoyed he always pulls out the "I am not that smart" card? In this case followed up by "You guys may be on to something." Passive aggressive? Would like to see a little more spine or leadership from KF. His response to the alleged locker room fight is a another good example.

As far as Harty goes: Here are a few columns from this year.

Positive story on James Morris.
Harty: James Morris more than holding his own | Hawk Central

Analysis about RB situation that is hard to argue with.
Harty: Never feel good about running back situation | Hawk Central

Positive column following loss to Arizona.
Harty: A loss, but not a total loss | Hawk Central

He is no Keeler. At least not this year.:)

There has most certainly been a change in KF's demeanor. I think he created a beast this year that he was unprepared to handle once the train derailed.

From the Arizona game when he lit up the special teams saying they were "horrible," something we've never heard KF say, to his demeanor with the press, and his what I would call feistiness with some of the questions being asked.

As nothing more than an outsider looking in, KF doesn't seem to be having a very good time. Not a lot of smiles, not any of the self depreicating light heartedness that we've come to expect.

It's amazing to me how people can be critical of Kirks dealings with the media this year. Kirk comes from the school of Belichick - to be as vague as you possibly can, to answer the question without really saying anything.

Kirk is handling the media the same way he always has - from a distance. The difference is that this year the team is losing the close games as opposed to winning them.

Before the Ohio State game last year, Brandon Wegher was given a painkiller (a shot) because of the rib injury he had suffered against Michigan State. He had a bad reaction to it, wasn't able to go, and the Hawks had to go with an an injured Adam Robinson.

Nobody on this board talked about it, because the Hawks were winning. This is the same type of situation (perceived mishandling of an injury), and people want to ***** about it.

Kirk's not saying much to the media.
