What is the State of Iowa football

Well, let's start with a positive KF and staff did a solid job having this team ready for the Missouri game easily could have phoned in.

1.What changes does Iowa need to make if any in the coaching staff for the 2011 season?

2.What changes if any does Iowa need to make in the program.

3.Do you think we will have any changes going into 2011.

I think a couple changes I'd like to see defensively:

1. More nickel packages. Bernstine played very well as the nickelback, and we had a little better go of it facing Mizzou's passing attack than we did in our base.

2. More press coverage. Prater and Hyde both did alright with that in the bowl, and both should be better next year. I think they'll be at the point where they can be trusted to do that effectively.

*I'm not calling for this all the time. But mix them in more often just as a change of pace. Make it a little tougher for offenses without deviating too much from our base.

Offensively:

1. A few more (meaning a lot more) games called like the one the other night. That was one of KOK's best games, the PA pass to Reisner was brilliant.

Special teams:

1. Put somebody like Hyde back to return punts. It'd be nice to have a (reliable) gamebreaker back there.

Not sure we'll see any of these changes, but I'd love to see any of them!

No real big changes:

I would like to see us mix it up on D some more....... a few more blitzes and some more man coverage and NICKEL and DIME packages.

On O I think we should run the ball great next year and I look forward to CJ FED and Herman having great years on Play Action.

I would like to see noted improvement in Spec Teams next year. I don't like Hyde returning punts but hope we can find a "shifty" game breaker with good hands to handle punts and kick offs.

Also would like to see us try to put some big DTs in (Carl Davis like). A couple 300 LB space eaters to keep our LBs clean next year. Might be an interesting change for us.

I hope Rogers makes it back. A fullback who is a threat to run it would add a bit of spice. Having a fullback who is a threat to run it is nice a change.

Special teams scare the hell out of me. They need a huge change. I would love to see a punter step up and the kicking game not scare me to death when we're place kicking at 30 yards or less. All I want is a punt returner who can catch the ball everytime and makes good decisions. I'm hoping some of the athletes were bringing in can improve kick coverage. Donahue was special and we may have some real issues in punt coverage next year without his talent.

We may improve in the defensively in the back 7 but not notice it because of the drop off in the d-line. I think we'll have to use more schemes and blitzes as we didn't get much pressure with the solid d-line we had. We'll be weak defensively, but I don't think that will be a system issue. Our defensive stats have been solid for years. The best thing about our defense may be the offensives ability to run it. Having Norm every week would be a big help IMO. I hope we don't need a coaching change on defense.

We need no changes where kids are considering leaving early. Sash and McNutt have to come back. I can't believe too many scouts were wowed by our pass defense against Mizzou and Marvin had real trouble shaking his man most of the night. IMO none of the guys are ready to come out early.

In short we'll miss our seniors badly IMO, but the pieces are falling into place for a solid 2012. One or two more big time recruits could brighten this outlook, but freshman are freshman. If we keep developing players I like where we're headed.

The one BIG CHANGE we need is to stay reasonably healthy.
