What is the Pecking Order for Return Men in 2011

Always nice to have solid return men. Iowa has had some good and some just average and some far from spectacular but I think this year and the next few they have the ability to put out some solid returns.

KR - Keenan Davis has to be first because of what he has been doing the last few years. I think Micah Hyde gets an opportunity in this realm though I see him as more of a punt returner. Canzeri will get looked at because of his explosiveness. Martin-Manley seems like a solid #3 receiver which would make him in line for a chance here. Maybe even someone with the speed of a Tanner Miller gets a shot.

PR - After some of the interception returns I see Micah Hyde being tops on the list. Then I think whoever is #3 receiver gets a look which I think will be Martin-Manley. Canzeri is a wild card that I know probably could use a redshirt to add muscle but he could just return and have a good impact.

What do others see? I know there are other WRs that could get looked at and I think DeAndre Johnson could end up in these pictures as well.

Wegher was back on returns his Frosh year. I see him doing it if it is someone like Canzeri because of how dynamic he could be. Starting at the 35 versus the 25 is a big difference especially since we won't have the field changer called Ryan Donahue when the offense falters.

I don't know if i Like K. Davis back there with our lack of experience at WR. I'm not really a fan of putting O or D starters in kick return unless they are special returners and I don't think we really have anyone that fits that mold.

I know he has done it before but with the injury problems at RB we've had i doubt Kirk would put a RB back there. He can barely keep them healthy when they are just running the ball

IMO the punt returner will be the skill player who best catches the ball. Ist things first. Keep the football. If someone proves they can cover a lot of ground and catch it he will be the guy. Avoid losing yards on balls that hit the turf and then roll for a big field position change. If a true game breaker exists in the group (which I doubt) of course they will rise to the top. If not expect the best hands guy to win that job.

Kick offs will be where we'll find out who is explosive. The new kids may get a chance but guys who have seen some action will likely continue. Maybe a Canzeri, a Campbell, or a Miller will be considered if they want to pull a shirt.

Iowa always thinks ball security first. We need a blazer for returns that wont cough it up. I though Kirk would put Chaney on PR duties last year, but I think ball security and north and south was an issue.

K Davis is not the answer

Canzeri has my vote.

No talk of Jordan Cotton returning kicks? I would put him in the running. I would say Cotton, Davis, Martin-Manley, and Canzeri.
