This would come the closest to what I think, but can you be a 'true fan' if you have never seen your team play in person.
So then there are hardly any true fans, since I've never seen anyone get totally depressed after an Iowa loss other than a close loss in an important game
If a team's loss effects you for more than, say, 3 hours, you are not a true fan, you need more hobbies.
I find it is easier to stay awesome when you do not get too emotionally invested in things you have no control over.
It really bugs me when people have this mentality that only the people who provide money to the school or program are the true fans

Such as posting on message boards?![]()
It really bugs me when people have this mentality that only the people who provide money to the school or program are the true fans, that because you donate makes you somehow better. My family has donated and had season tickets for around 35 years now. Does that make us better hawkeye fans? Hell no! We are just lucky and able to do so. Everyone who pays taxes in the state of Iowa "donates" to the school and program. God this bugs me. A "True Fan" is someone who LOVES his/her team, period, end of story!![]()
I don't have an emotional investment to this message board. I am as attached to the guys here the same way I ram attached to the guys who bag my groceries at Hy-Vee. Convienient, of course, since most of the guys here ARE the guys who bag groceries at Hy-Vee.
I bag at Fareway jerk!![]()
This is pretty good, and I would add: Supports the team/school financially to the extent he/she is able.
(However just because you do give $$$ doesn't necessarily mean you are a "true" fan.)
This topic never gets old.
