What is Iowa known for?

I don't think most people outside of the state know or care about how much KF makes. I had no clue that last year Bobby Petrino made about the same as KF. If people see the list of highest paid coaches I'm sure they are a little surprised how high KF is but it's not something that most fans outside of Iowa know.
As far as what Iowa Football is known for, I think it breaks down to different groups.
Big 10 Fans-Probably think Iowa on a normal year is a solid mid pack Big 10 team. Usually has a good defense, typical Big 10 offense, and a good coach that overachieves with the players they get.
Typical college football fan-Probably knows very little about Iowa. Knows that Iowa is middle of the road in the Big 10. They probably know as much about Iowa as an Iowa fan would know about Ole Miss or a similar team. Probably couldn't name a current Iowa player but may be able to name a couple that have made it to the NFL.

1. Running a clean, dignified program
2. Producing fundamentally sound football players
3. Quality OL and TEs
4. Finding unheralded players and coaching them up
5. No frills offense and defense that tries to slow drip you with execution

I know this. Take any combination of 2 of those 3 teams head coaches, and they still make less than Ferentz. And all 3 teams have a better record than Iowa. You see, those 3 teams are all on the rise. A better example may have been Auburn, Arkansas and Texas.
What are you talking about? Do you know those three teams head coaches without looking them up? Can you name 3 players on any of those teams? That was my point.

1. They've not been charged with any NCAA violations, that's what I was thinking. Every program has guys on it that screw up - I would submit that they're exposed more at Iowa, given the Administration and police culture in Iowa City.
2. That's what the NFL scouts/coaches all say about Iowa's players - they don't need to instruct them on fundamentals because they have those already in place - I'm just accepting that as being true.
3. Can't argue with you on this one, except to say they are known for their OL and TE, which is what the question asked
4. Given the number of lightly ranked players who end up playing, I think the number is not that small (not that it's a good thing that such a large number of lightly ranked players are playing significant minutes)
5. Again, it's what Iowa is known for, not whether it's a good thing their known for it.

2.Doing the EXACT same thing from the EXACT same formation (on O and D) and expecting different result (insanity)
3.Aweful clock management
4.Defense that NEVER gets off the field (therefore Offense rarely gets on field)
5.KF salary
(adding a few more just for fun)
6.QBs get progressively worse over careers
7.Aweful bathroom experience (only those visitors who actually visit Kinnick)
8.Sending tons of players to NFL IN SPITE of the above.

Speaking of awful bathroom experiences in Kinnick, in the NE men's room two aggro jerks began fighting right in front of me (just before halftime of the PSU game) because one of the aggro jerks thought the other one should have taken less time at a urinal.

I tend to agree with you based on some friends I have who don't live near here and have nothing at all in common with Iowa other than our friendship. They are aware of my love for the Hawks, but have always shown admirable respect towards Iowa. Specifically, I asked this question to one of them who is a big football fan (more than avg), die hard Notre Dame fan, who lives in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. I did not specify post Orange Bowl Iowa. His analysis in no particular order were:
1) Always a solid football team (that has been down the past 2 years- usually just under the top teams in Big Ten).
2) Has put a bunch of players into the NFL.
3) Good coach who has been there for quite a while.
4) Tough place to play at.
5) Huge (and nutty) fan base with a strong following. (Loves it when we have played bowl games down there)
His comments were basically seconded by another friend there who loves Miami football and son goes to Alabama, and is an avg general football fan. He added that we have a tough time recruiting, but always have great linemen, tight ends, and run defense.
Both of them are aware of the several players we have pulled out of that area, and are very familiar with Ruduck being from their back yard. They both asked if he's getting any reps yet and if/when he's going to play as he gets older. They both felt that Iowa was a top 25 program that has been missing from the polls of late, and wished us the best.
