What if....

Nebraska was having the season that Iowa is? Would the talking heads be saying the same things they are about Iowa? I just heard on ESPN's College Football Sunday saying we better hope that Iowa is playing an undefeated Ohio State in BIG championship game or we probably aren't in the final four teams. There is so much favoritism to the "name" teams. Bet they would creaming themselves if Nebby was undefeated right now. I know we just need to win out, but it pisses me off they are looking for reasons for Iowa not to get in.

I think that people are spending too much time/energy/emotion looking for some sort of validation from ESPN.

It's not so much looking for validation from ESPN, but does all this talk have an influence on the selection committee? Right now I think two one loss teams are going to make it. Alabama and Notre Dame. Throw in Clemson and that leaves one spot.

We just need the Big 12 to take themselves out and be left out again. Okie St still has Baylor and Oklahoma. Baylor still has 4 tough tests and hasn't looked as good with backup QB.

Leaving

Bama
Clemson
Iowa (as long as they win out)
ND or Stanford who play head to head

If Oklahoma St wins out, that could throw a wrench in this whole thing!! But I would wonder who who would have a stronger strength of schedule with Iowa playing an extra game in the Big 10 championship. Okie St would have played Baylor, TCU and Oklahoma all at home so no quality road wins and their non conference was junk. So I'm still not sure we don't get selected ahead of them anyways.

Why do people still not get this...there's no chance the CFP committee will leave out a 13-0 big ten team. IT...WONT...HAPPEN....

Just win out...take your 4 seed and try to shock the world.

I agree with this. What would the message be if this did not happen:

Win every game on your schedule, win the B1G championship, beat 2 or 3 Top 25 teams (all on the road) and this is not better than an independent ND that picks its own schedule and where they play, has no conference games to concentrate on or a championship game to play and gets knocked off along the way. While Iowa at 13-0 vs. ND at 11-1 garners some discussion, I can't see the committee going against 13-0. I think the only way two 1 loss teams get into the CFP is if there are only 2 unbeaten Power 5 champions.

We need to just take 1 game at a time and let the pieces fall as they should.

Funny, I would ask the same question of the opposite. As of right now an undefeated Iowa would need help to get into the playoffs. How hard is that to understand? Clemson, Notre Dame, Alabama, and Baylor are all in if they win out and you might be able to say the same thing about Oklahoma State, Stanford, and possibly even Florida. Yet it is so easy to just put blinders on and declare Iowa is in if they win out.

Agree we need help but Baylors next 4 are...

Oklahoma
@ Okie St
@ TCU
Texas

I'll bet my house they don't go 4-0 in that stretch with their back up QB.

I'm more concerned with Okie St who only has 3 games

@ ISU
Baylor
Oklahoma

However... Even if they win those 3, Okie St would have 0 quality road wins. Iowa will have 2 and a neutral field win. I think Iowa gets the nod.

Notre Dame and Stanford to take care of itself when they play head to head.

Still way too early to even contemplate. I will wait to see what Tuesday evening brings in the CFP Poll which might tell us what the committe thinks of Iowa. Rolling up 467 yards on the road even against IU is still good. And holding them to 27 with a very late TD is great. Maybe we jump to # 7 as they dont like OKie St with no tough road wins.

If the hawks dont move at all then that is not a good sign I do not believe. but hawks have to be 12-0 to even be in consideration.

I'm not saying Baylor WILL win out, I get they have a rough schedule. My point was lets not pretend Iowa doesn't need help to get into the playoffs as an undefeated, we need Baylor to lose along with a bunch of other teams.

If Oklahoma State wins out Iowa would probably need to blow out Ohio State to get in over Oklahoma State.

I'll think about this more after Thanksgiving. It's not even a discussion for me right now. #1 Iowa HAS to win out for this to even be a problem. Lose 1 game and its not. I would have no problem with being left out of the playoff in that scenario. Not Iowa's fault, the the SOS for the conference schedule simply isnt there.

Half the undefeated teams lost this weekend. Let's see who's still standing in 3 weeks. One between Stanford/ND will knock each other out in the season finale. Bama still has Auburn and Florida. Baylor has a gauntlet left to run. Clemson has to win ACC Championship...etc.

None of that matters if Iowa loses once, and that's fine with me. I am just going to enjoy the ride.

On to Minnesota!

Could a conference like the B1G sue the BSC if a 13-0 B1G conference champ is left out while two one loss teams are let in? Could the B1G ask for an injunction by the courts to keep the playoffs from being played until the law suit is settled?

Any lawyers out here that could give some insight on this? I realize all of this is just conjecture as we have a lot of football to play. If, and that is a B1G IF, it did happen it would make good TV!!!! Get the popcorn and drinks out the judge and lawyers are on TV to discuss the play offs.

No...you're not understanding the point at all. The committee would never leave a 13 and 0 big ten team out of the playoffs. The big ten is the richest and most powerful conference in college sports with by far the largest fan base out of any conference. The day they leave out a 13-0 big ten champion is the day college football as we know it falls apart. It's the reality.

You can come up with all of the doomsday scenarios you want to and lose sleep over it all you want but it's a completely pointless exercise.

What would they sue them for?
Is there a law that would be broken?

No, that wouldn't be good TV, that would ruin College Football

Alabama, yes, if they win out. Notre Dame maybe but it won't be over an undefeated conference champ. In other words either Baylor, Clemson or both tOSU and Iowa have to lose for ND to have a chance.

I have this gut feeling that Michigan is going to beat Ohio St. Buckeyes seem to be kind of "lazy" this year with all the talent they have, and Michigan seems due to beat them. Plus it's in Ann Arbor.
