What if..... What is Iowa ranked when they play Wisconsin if they are undefeated?

I don't get it, why does the OP pretend there is a possibility of Iowa losing one of its first ten games?

Exactly. The Question should not be "What if", but simply "What", as in "What will Iowa be ranked when they go into the Wisconsin game undefeated?"

If we start out 10-0 and then still manage to make it to the title game in Indy, I will drive over and personally buy the next 20 people who post in this thread and who appear at the game a beer*.

I don't know, the national media is pretty down on the B1G for the past few years. Iowa may have to win more than ten games to start the season just to get into the "also receiving votes" category at the bottom of the poll. Its kinda like when a Sun Belt team starts the season 11-0 and still can't get ranked. Maybe I sound cynical, but we may have to go undefeated and win the Miami Beach Bowl before we crack the top-25.

Good one.

I guess I'm not sure what the criteria will be, though. If it comes down to BCS rankings, then yeah, just win and move up the polls, and you're golden. But I was thinking this was going to be more of a selection committee type of process? I heard some talk last year about OSU not being deserving because of their easy schedule, and that other 1-loss teams should get in if there had been a playoff system in 2013. Who knows what the committee would actually do, but it makes me wonder if Iowa's easy schedule this year would work against them.

Iowa was up to #4 in 2009 though IIRC, when they were 9-0. That did include a win @PSU. So if Iowa goes undefeated, I would hope that they would get in. They'd certainly be in the picture.

I believe there is a selection committee voting on the top 20 every week of the season and its there job to determine the top 4. The results of the selection committee vote to be carried live on ESPN every week.

Oh yeah! Vote to be carried on EsecPN. Looking forward to that!

And in connection with the SEC's partnership with ESPN, a modified 3/5ths Compromise will be reached whereby voters in states (other than Texas) that have SEC teams will be given 3/5ths or 60% of the total voting power. Teams in the playoffs will be SEC championship game finalists, the highest ranked among the remaining SEC teams and then the best of OSU, Oregon, Texas, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Florida State.

Well if we went undefeated that would mean beating in consecutive weeks Wisky, Nebby and B1G Champ vs OSU/Mich/MSU which would be a nice finish

Bear in mind, a full EIGHT games into the 2009 season, Lou Holtz was STILL going on about how he couldn't "get past that Northern Iowa game." I can't really quote him, given that 80% of what he says is near-unintelligible, but I'm pretty sure that was what he was trying to say.

So, SHOULD we start 10-0, the complaints, in addition to a weak schedule, will focus on any wins of less than 21 points in the non-conference part of the season.

Now, SHOULD we start 10-0...I really don't CARE what the "national media" has to say, nor will I gripe too much about where we're ranked, assuming, of course, that "only" beating Pitt by 7 points drops us out of the polls, anyway...

Was that not the year UNI went to the championship game too? They were pretty good then. But yea that is the gist of why I started this thread. Cause yea even if Iowa gets to 10-0 I doubt it'll be with any avg margin of victory being over double digits. They just aren't built that way and it'd be beyond even the biggest homer like myselves comprehension if they were to blow out teams like Pitt and Maryland on the road. If they were to win by say 14 or more in most of their games never by less then 10... Boy oh boy how big of a game is that Wisky game going to be then if say they have just one loss? I have no clue what their schedule looks like but by all accounts they should be pretty good too

I presume some sarcasm; but yeah, the $EC is going to b*tch each season they don't have at least 2 teams. You can just see it coming a mile away.

....the lowest of any undefeated team at that point, and perhaps, ranked behind a 1-loss team(s)....

Not sure where UNI finished that year. But...a 10-0 Iowa that hasn't yet played Wiscy/Nebraska, and hasn't/won't be playing MSU/O$U/Michigan...can't exactly expect to be ranked very deep inside Top 10. Some voters and media wags would probably leave us off their list "to make a point".

UNI finished 7-4 and missed the playoffs in 2009.

If Iowa starts 10-0, that means we somehow beat Lazard and Magino. That alone should make us a top 3 team.
