What If Derp Is Gone Next Year?

Does anyone have faith KF would finally make the changes necessary to pull this program out of the 90's, hire an offensive guru and stay the F out of his way? Or is it too late for KF in your mind? Would any legit O coordinator even want to attempt fixing this offense with KF still at the top? Have to think other coaches shake their head and maybe even laugh at KF and Derpy's attempt at offense.

Take more verticle shots. Open up the run game.

Fixed.

Where do I apply?

It would be like after Mack Brown fired GDGD, he would replace him with two or three people who run things the way the head coach wants it. They churned through Harsin from Boise State and fan favorite Major Applewhite and some other guy who combined to just struggle through even more mediocrity.

No I don't have faith that changes will come. Here is why. Time after time KF has not acknowledged or seen the world the way I have and thus has not done what NCHawker would do. So I don't assume he'll change a damned thing.

Calling it now. He's going to give the OC job to the Brain. They gonna finally run the full Ferentz offense. No more WRs. Just QB, RBs, OL, and TE.

You forgot punters - we need 2 or 3 of them on scholly. Also, RBs tend to fumble a lot - maybe just carry a few extra TEs & run some direct snaps?

The next OC will be Brian..then the poor kid will get to encur the full rath of the fanbase for having to run his dad's pathetic offense. We finally have some playmakers on this offense and the coaches don't know how to get the ball to them regularly. Unless you are a RB like Greene who was gauranteed to touch the ball 20 times by virtue of the position.

Maybe this is just me holding out hope, but KF has let his OC implement the type of passing games that they choose. KOK was the play action downfield, crossing route passing game. GD is the horizontal passing game. Both are required to run KF zone blocking schemes and power running game. I also don't think that KF messing with the play calling much, but is the one who decides if they are going for it on 4th, and also might overrule a play or two.

I will admit that was my favorite offensive formation in 2009. Having 3 high quality TE that could catch and block made us very difficult to stop in that formation. Doesn't matter if they stack the box when there are 9 quality blockers in the box.

I'm giddy at the thought of replacing GD. Unfortunately there are a few things raining on my imaginary parade:
#1 KF will not fire GD
#2 KF does not even acknowledge that there is a problem with the offense
#3 KF will only hire another clone of himself

Kurt actually CHOSE to hire GD in the first place. If GD retires or rejoins Mack, I have zero faith in Ferentz's ability to fill the role with a quality candidate.

To answer your question, NO. KF thinks GD is a great guy and a great OC. We'll keep doing the same thing all over again. I hope I eat crow for this BTW. Time for a change, and I'm not talking just shuffling the deck chairs.

Derp was a nickname for Case McCoy on the Texas Longhorn fan forums, based on his team photo, facial expressions, and some off the field scandal that involved a sex act he may or may not have videotaped.

But here is seems pretty clearly to be Greg Davis.

Thanks for the insight, I figured it was Davis, but had no idea why he was being called Derp. This here internet is a powerful tool, thanks to you-its working

What planet are you from?? Heard all I needed to hear, when KF said, after going 4-8 with one of the WORST offenses in FBS, WITH a senior QB (Vandy) with tons of experience (and previous success) that appeared to COMPLETELY REGRESS under Davis, and Davis just completed his 1-yr contract, "I think he (Davis) really 'gets it' and we will re-sign him" (something to that effect). When I heard that, I knew we were doomed.

KF IS THE REAL IDIOT, NOT DAVIS. DAVIS CAN'T HELP THAT HE IS AN AWFUL OC. However, KF cud fire him or make give him the ultimatum of changing or hit the door. Not KF. He is too nice. KF has great qualities of being a position coach, but NOT a head coach. Sometimes, as a coach/President/CEO, you have to be 'the bad guy'. Not sure he is capable of that.

Davis was a good OC ten years ago, hearing about Jay Cutler on the radio today made me remember the 2005 season where Vince Young and Reggie Bush were making ridiculous highlight reels every Saturday.

From the Greg Davis archives, the 2005 Big 12 Championship Game in Houston:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kW9PfaNy2-s

The Longhorns were only ahead 42-3 at halftime, their offensive line was a bunch of nobodies, and Vince Young could barely earn a paycheck in the NFL.

IF GD is asked to move on or if he just retires on his own, I think KF will go after the best OC he can find who knows the pro set, stresses the run game with a play action passing attack, which in turn stresses deep throws, seam routes and tight ends, with more screens and some variations in the line blocking scheme. We would see jet sweeps and a very limited number of flat passes to try for some yards after catch. In other words, return to KOK's offense, one with which KF is comfortable. I think he made an honest attempt to blend the KOK scheme with the GD horizontal passing attack, but it was/is a complete disaster.

I do think we will benefit from GD's insistence that we recruit more speed and athleticism at the receiver positions. Now if we can add a couple of premium running backs...

I absolutely do not think he will hire Brian F. as the next OC. The speculation that he is grooming BF for this position has no basis in fact and has become yet another internet myth.

Finally, I am hopeful that GD will be gone and that we can return to an Offense that KF likes...maybe then there is a chance that he will open up the offense. Maybe.
