What if a Big Donor Buys Out Ferentz's Contract...

Suggesting that a "big donor" would buy out KF's contract is just plain silly. BTW, the comment about not wanting GB to hire a new football coach: How did he do with Fran the Man? If you think BG would not go after a coach who featured a solid defense and a potent offense, you need to re-examine your thought process. Now, who would come to Iowa? For how much?

Don't forget that Barta also hired Lickliter.

Scooby, what do you meen by flamed out ? He was let go the day after the Neb. game last year
Coaches hold the players accountable.
Message board posters hold coaches accountable.
Message board posters need to be mindful of calling players out by name.
I remember a time when officials didn't mention jersey number on a penalty.

We've mentioned the drop passes by this receiving corps. Still curious how Erik Campbell flamed out in 2012 as WR coach.

If we finish 8-4, YES, that should be considered a success by all.

Don't forget that Barta also hired Lickliter.

And Bump Elliott, considered by many to be the best AD ever at Iowa, hired Frank Lauterbur and Bob Commings before he hired Hayden Fry.

Barta missed on Lickliter, but he got it right with Fran. The Ferentz contract extension will be debated for a long time, although not many were talking it down when it happened. A strong finish this year, and solid seasons the next 2 years (against admittedly softer schedules) will quiet the noise.

Who would you go after as the next Iowa HC? Personally, I think a good option would be Pat Narduzzi (MSU Defensive Coordinator/Assistant Head Coach). He has made it known that if the right opportunity came along for him to become a HC he would do it. I think Iowa would be a great fit for him. And here is a novel concept, he gives shout outs to his players on Twitter all the time. Is very active in social media, which is a hit with recruits. If he could lure in a good Offensive Coordinator, he could be in business. Unfortunately, I think he has to be picked up this year because he will be a HC next year (potentially Illinois or Indiana). It's fun to play the what if game once in a while. Lets keep this thread off of KF and solely on who you would want to replace him and why.

You want to hire him cause he gives shoutouts on Twitter? I do that. Can I get hired?

Basically.... winning is good, losing is bad and brings up All the shortcomings of the staff/coach.

nebby fans don't think they should ever win less than 8 wins....they are also wrong...send I will laugh at them too.

To answer the OP's question, in the incredibly unlikely event that Ferentz is no longer the Iowa coach after this season, my dream scenario would be for Iowa to hire a defensive-minded head coach, someone like Bob Diaco or Pat Narduzzi, and bring in the Strohmeier brothers from Iowa Western to run the offense.

My dream coaching staff:
Head Coach--Bob Diaco
OC/QB Coach--Scott Strohmeier
WR Coach--Mike Strohmeier
RB Coach--Donnie Woods
OL Coach--Reese Morgan
DC/DB Coach--Kerry Cooks
DL Coach--Bill Ennis-Inge
LB Coach--LeVar Woods
Defensive Assistant--Bob Elliott
There would be space to hire one other coach, probably a recruiting coordinator of some type.

Flame out, in how the WR corps performed in 2012.
Prior to that, I thought he was a very solid position coach.
Odd that he was let go after one bad year.

Maybe I missed something but isn't this the 2nd year for the Illinois staff and 1st year for Indiana's?

The point isn't about shout outs on Twitter so much as the handcuffing of players and not allowing them to be active in social media. If you think that doesn't matter to kids in my generation you are out of touch! Recruiting is about so much more than winning/losing on the field. It's about the kids and coaches meshing and KF is so out of touch with today's generation that it isn't a wonder he can't land big recruits. And I know some will point to just landing a 4 Star recruit this week, but then I'd point to is he a 4 star or 3 star, because different publications have him listed differently.

Maybe I missed something but isn't this the 2nd year for the Illinois staff and 1st year for Indiana's?

Kevin Wilson is in his 3rd season at Indiana with an 8-24 Record Overall, 3-17 B1G Record
Tim Beckman is in his 2nd season at Illinois with an 5-15 Record Overall, 0-12 B1G Record (overall 18 game B1G losing streak)

Those two coaches will be fired at the end of this season. Very little doubt about it. I do believe unless a top coach is poached, the rest of the coaches will be back next season.

Who had just won the national coach of the year. It didn't work out, but Barta was smart enough to recognize it, pull the plug on it after just three years, and followed it up with a terrific hire.

Good Lord! Was it only three years?!?

Even if a donor walked in tomorrow and wrote the check, we'd still be stuck with this: "The Committee".

Iowa Football is now under the indirect (or perhaps more direct) control of Sally Mason and her administration. And we have an AD that lacks the intestinal fortitude, savy and most importantly the autonomy..to make a big play.

Much as I dislike Bowlsby, he knew how to play the game, and Bump even more so. But those are days gone.

On a related note, there's been an interesting side discussion regarding the HMB on a Facebook group, somewhat stimulated by discussions here about how weak the band is. You'd be surprised at how closely it parallels the discussions here about football. The same basic formula that destroyed the once great and crazy Hawkeye Marching Band ...are also at work our football program and athletic department in general.

The "East Campus" egghead types that sip Chardonnay at their cocktail parties and posture over how enlightened they are... despise the success of our athletic department and anything associated with it. The Melrose Ave cleanup, increased gameday security, neutering of the band...etc are no accidents. They have been done with, at best... naive ignorance. at worst... willful intent with a broader goal in mind.
