What happens if....

Really been thinking into the rest of the season and how everything plays out for the Hawks at the #5 spot. My instant reaction was similar to many: if the Hawks win out and take down an undefeated Ohio State in the B1G Championship, they would be a lock for the final four. Things would obviously be different if we were to win vs. a one-loss team, I understand that. However, Iowa is currently ranked #5 based on their resume thus far; Baylor is #6 because of what they haven't done yet this year. But let's say Baylor wins out against #12 Oklahoma, @ #8 Oklahoma State, @ #15 TCU, and Texas. Their final resume prior to the B1G Championship would look better than the Hawks. Iowa would obviously still have the B1G Championship and a win vs #3 Ohio State to add to our resume. IF IF IF IF IF all my "assumptions" are correct at the time and IF IF IF we win out... who does the final playoff spot go to? Does the committee slide Baylor in from the #5 spot, or does Iowa jump Baylor from the #6 spot? Are we even as vulnerable as I think we are at the #5 spot?

Go Hawks

Ya can't worry about what ya don't know...it's fun to talk about and dream about. We are now in the convetsation and on every fans rafar...but in the end, we just need to sit back and enjoy letting it play out in front of us.

If anyone from the Big 12 goes undefeated they will be in and either Iowa, Notre Dame, or Stanford get left out.

That just isn't true.

The committee appears to be setting up a pre-playoff playoff. Clemson and Alabama are in if they win. The winner of OSU-Iowa is in and the winner of ND-Stanford is in. The big 12 is the one that needs help, and rightfully so.

Obviously a lot of football to play up to that point, but that is how I see it and I am always right.

After last year, I really don't trust anything the committee does until the last poll is in. Heck the committee didn't think OSU had done enough to be in last year UNTIL after the B1G conference championship game. I mean then after TCU waxes da Clowns, and after the committee had been saying for weeks and weeks that TCU was a playoff team and OSU wasn't a playoff team, they changed their mind last minute and put in OSU.

The committee has pretty much spoken. If Iowa keeps winning, they are poised to break into the final four.

However, we can all agree it's a tenuous position....one loss and Iowa goes down faster than Linda Lovelace.

I would have to believe that if Okie State wins out with wins over Oklahoma and Baylor and Iowa wins out it would be this:

CLEMSON 1. Vs. Okie State 4
Alabama 2. Vs. Iowa. 3

Notre Dame is going to stumble vs Stanford. Things that are interchangeable?
OSU instead Iowa
Notre Dame instead of Okie aState assuming Okie State loses and ND beats Stanford.

I think this is true. The committee can't leave out a undefeated power 5 when there are plenty of spots for all of them. If there are 3 then the last spot would go to Bama or ND/Stanford. I would bet on Bama at that point. ND had already lost to Clemson. And I can't see them picking Stanford over Bama.

Lets play this What if game:

What if Clemson, OSU/Iowa, Bama/Florida, Okie St./Baylor win out and are your college football playoff teams, and Notre Dame is left at home at #5 with a 11-1 record? Do the Doomers seriously have to consider joining a conference?

Just because Iowa is #5 this week doesn't mean they will be at this spot or higher in the next 3 weeks. Iowa can slide if other teams below Iowa have quality wins. #5 is Iowa's ceiling until the BIG championship game secondary to who is left on Iowa's schedule. The Nebby game is huge for "eyes" as it will be pretty much the only college football game on that day. That is big this year.

one of the committees stated criteria, near the top of the list is championships won. ND = 0 so they need help if ACC/B10/B12 all have an undefeated plus 1-loss SEC team is a lock.

ND and Pac-12 out with 1-loss. ND and Stanford play so one of them is eliminated. Utah could win Pac.

I think so. Precedence was set last year leaving Baylor/TCU out because NO ONE was named B12 Champ. It was shared.

If the Hawkeyes win out...they are in the playoff. I believe the league has Ohio State, Iowa, Michigan State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Northwestern all in the CFP rankings. Although that might not be SEC style love...that is a lot of love by the committee for the Big 10. We will be fine. If we beat MSU or Michigan or one loss OSU....we are in if we are undefeated. Better question is does a loss to Nebraska then a win in the big championship against unbeaten OSU get us in the playoff. First reaction is no...but....what other things happen....no undefeated big twelce champ....stanford over notre dame...alabama loses to say florida in the sec title game....etc.

Well, you would think so, and probably the ACC because they just despise the B1G for some reason.

Another likely consequence would be college football going to an 8 team tournament.
