What Former Hawkeyes Would Have Cashed in on NIL Rule?

I think any starting Iowa quarterback could have cashed in, they typically are the most recognizable player on any team. Stanzi would have made a killing off his patriotic "love it or leave it" slogan after the 2009 Orange Bowl.

So will the University start selling officially licensed jerseys with player's names on them, as long as the player gives their OK and gets a cut of the royalties?

A lot of fun posts here but here is one of the more serious side.

Obviously a lot of young players are going to gain a lot of power which could put coaches in extremely difficult situations.

I'm guessing 10 yrs from now the same folks who were the biggest proponents for this will be the same ones lamenting the corruption and degradation of college athletics. It's the law of unintended consequences.

And I am one of those who was a big proponent. I was thinking of more of a autographs/pictures/appearance fee/jersey sales type of stuff which I believe those players have a right to. But the deal in place is much broader.

A player has a breakout FR year and signs a sponsorship deal with a company run by an Iowa alum who also is a big donor to the athletic program. Then that player gets himself into trouble. Those possibilities are endless in terms of how that sponsorship could affect the player, his punishment, the relationship with the donor, heat on Kirk and scrutiny of his ultimate decision, and on and on.

Kirk and every other college coach is well compensated. No doubt. But they're also responsible for funding an entire athletic department. Its a lot of moving parts anyway and it just got more complex.

I'm going to skip the players and apply the rule to assistant coaches. One of my favorite T-Shirts of all time, "Norm Parker, even with one foot he could kick your ass"

Not at you at all, just in general whenever there is large scale change other things end up changed too that folks don't want.

Reimbursing players is the right thing to do. I just don't trust schools or the NCAA to do it well without making a mess of it all.
