What does each Big 10 team lose next year

Fran is working on his 3rd consecutive season of finishing in the top half of the conference. It's just funny how there will always be someone who says "if Fran doesn't finish 'insert goal that is higher than he achieved here' then he needs to be fired". If he finishes 6th, people will say he should be fired for not finishing 4th. If he finishes 4th, people will say he should be fired for not finishing 2nd. If he makes the tournament, someone will say he should be fired for not making a better run. If we lose to Kentucky on a last second 3 in the tourney, people will say he needs to be fired because his teams always lose close games.

It's just crazy to me. We finally have a coach who gives us a chance to be really good and people want him to be fired because he misses a random goal they set by a bounce here and a bounce there.

I agree that it's still premature to talk about firing Fran, but the past two seasons weren't exactly great successes despite finishing in the top half of the conference. Two seasons ago we were in the NIT, and last season we were only technically in the NCAA tournament. We aren't a lock for the tournament yet this season, and next season could be a step back with no White or Olaseni. After that we lose Uthoff, Woodbury, and Gessell and unless our recruiting really steps up a notch that is going to be a bad season.

I think the 4 incoming freshmen and Ellingson will bring a lot to the table and be solid by their sophomore season. We still have Jok, Dickerson and Uhl so that's an 8 player rotation plus the incoming freshmen that season. I don't envision very many 1 dimensional players in that rotation either. It'a all guess work at this point but I don't see that as a bad season.

I agree that they weren't great. My point was that a lot of people will always think it wasn't a great season because they will always think we should have done better. My theory is proved by us getting rid of Mr. Davis. People always want more than what they have.

What an extraordinary idea Windsor! Unless OSU and MSU bring in some serious freshmen, which they more than likely will do, they are going to be hurting. If Decker leaves, Wisconsin will fall back to the pack. They probably will even if he stays. I think the conference will look like it does this year except instead of a 7 way race for 2nd it will be a log jam for 1st.

Until Bo retires then don't pick Wisconsin outside of the Top 4. Hayes and Koenig look to be stars. Plus there will be some goofy looking 6'10" guy that comes off of the bench that no one knows of or can't pronounce his name.

You get my thumbs up from me too, People need to see Fran and his family absolutely loves Iowa. I am sure Iowa loves him . He's bringing warm bodies to fill Carver-Hawkeye Arena. He's making money for Iowa. Come on, think of a big picture. Final Four? :)

20 thumbs up.

The Badgers are counting on Ethan Happ, who is a redshirt frosh, 6'9" who Bo says can play like a 6'3" guard or a 6'10" big. He's been spending the year guarding Kaminsky and Dekker. There are 2 unknowns: does Dekker go pro and do the Badgers get Diamond Stone, a very highly rated recruit from Wis who may be the first one-and-done in the Ryan era.

If he's had success playing against Kaminsky and Dekker he should be ready for anyone else in the conference.

I'm surprised no one has posted next year's schedule yet. Here it is...may want to match it up with personnel losses.

Home-and-Home...Indiana, Michigan, MSU, PSU and Purdue
Home....NW, Nebraska, Minnesota and Wisconsin
Away....Illinois, Maryland, OSU and Rutgers

This is really something...had no idea! I like it, I like it.

ActiveBadger is that you?

I guess you missed this year when they're top 5. There is almost 100% chance they will be down next year.

If by down you mean that they will drop from Top 5 in the country, then yes I agree. I would still put money on Wisconsin finishing in the top 4 of the league and contending/winning the regular season title if they get a few breaks. If Dekker stays, they are likely among the pre-season favorites to win the league.

Ryan has 14 straight years of finishing top 4 in the league, so he gets the benefit of the doubt until one of his teams doesn't accomplish that.

That's exactly what i meant. It was them and everyone else this year. That won't be the case next year. Other than them, we were right there with everyone else. That gap is gone next year.

I agree. It's going to be a real dog fight. And I don't think I mentioned them before but Michigan is going to be right back in the thick of things. They have no seniors and were missing arguably their 2 best players most of the conference season.

Most of the mock NBA drafts I have seen show Dekker going late in the first round. His stock could rise if they make it to the final four. A couple more nights like the game against UNC and I think he will be seeing the dollar signs.

I don't really have a team to root for in the tourney anymore but the one thing i am rooting for is for Dekker to play good.

Players going pro early from programs helps recruiting. High school kids want to see that. Wisconsin hasn't had many early entries and now it appears they might add another early entrant along with Devin Harris. May hurt them short term but help future

Well I think Dekker just answered that. After the UNC and Arizona performances those NBA GMs and agents will convince him to come out early. He's no worse than a middle first round pick.
