What do you consider progress for next year's squad

Where did I say phase 2 of 3? I was talking about plumbing, jeeezzzz.

So like I posed earlier McHawkin, lets say you get your way and fire Lick. New coach comes in and keep all the recruits, and nobody transfers. Does he have to win 18-20 games also?

I don't have a crystal ball, but if those things happened and it was the right coach I think that is a very good possibility Iowa could get 18-20 next season with this group along with the incoming recruits. I also think it woud help recruiting, especially in the 2012 class.

Next year is going to be an interesting one. I would hope for 17 wins as "sign of imporovement"..... It's just going to come down to seeing how good the incoming recruits are and seeing how the current players progress and mix with the new recruits.

Like I said there may not be many wins next year, but maybe Iowa is in a lot of games... Who knows, I would really like to see how the Big 10 season finishes this year. It can get a lot better or a lot worse going forward. I would think this "Next Year" discussion is probably better served for after the season.

Alford made 1 NCAA tourney appearance in his first 5 years.

We landed a 4 star recruit this year in Larsen (according to Scout)

Ummmm, are you a plumber? I don't think you are because when building a house progress is occurring when the ground works are done, more progress is occurring when the rough-in plumbing is done, and then more progress is occurring when the trim out of the fixtures is done. Three distinct phases in the plumbing process, and progress is occurring during all of these stages.

You clearly missed my point. It's progress when you can see the project moving along into major stages not little bitty increments. Probably a bad representation of what I was trying to say so that was my fault.

Hawkeyereport has Larson (correct spelling by the way) as a 3-star recruit. This could change after the season but does it really matter that much? He's not going to come to Iowa as a top 25 recruit and maybe not even int he top 100.

As others have said, who cares about alford, he sucked while he was here and delivered nothing more than a bag of hot air. We are on Licks watch now and year 3 is brutal - one of the worst teams in Iowa basketball history.

You are correct, that was a brutally bad analogy. Top 25 players are 5 star recruits, and no we aren't getting any of those.

We can also agree that Alford sucked, and I can agree this years team is one of the worst I personally have ever seen.

I still believe that in year 5 (whoever the coach is) this will be a NCAA team with a good foundation to move forward, minus any further defections from the team. It will be very experienced with SR, and JR that have logged 2 & 3 years of hard fought Big10 games, and we will have some very talented SO pushing them. That is JMO.

If I had a nickel for every time I had to explain why I think Lick should get 5 years, I would be a rich man. Five years gives any coach a chance to come in, clean house if needed, recruit his own players, and redshirt players if possible. If you cannot produce by the end of 5 years, then something is wrong. Lick cleaned house, he was really unable to redshirt due to transfers. Those transfers also set this program back in year three to a place worse than year one. So Lick has his work cut out for him to get to the NCAA by the end of year 5. I still think it will be done.

Yes, this year sucks, but it would be a hell of alot better if Kelly and Peterson were on this team. Blame the transfers on Lick all you want, but they were not his recruits. I have also said recently that if we start seeing some of his recruits leave, then there is a problem that Barta needs to look into. That may happen at the end of this season, who knows?

The 5 year plan is not out of the ordianary. That is why you see many 5 year contracts when a coach is hired. I am not sure why Lick got 7 years??? Next year will be better no doubt. Again, I would like to see a win total around 17. I fully expect 20+ wins during that 5th year!!!

If you fire Lick now, I think you set the program back once again, no matter if some of you want to believe that or not. You may or may not have transfers and the four coming in next year may not want to attend Iowa. I think you would be looking at another 4 or 5 years of bad Iowa basketball. I think we need to trust Lick can get this done. Many have criticized his recruiting. Well, we have a top 30 class coming in next year. Some think he has forgotten how to coach since he came to Iowa. Well, he beat many big 10 teams the year he won COTY with much less talent. Many think his system cannot work in the big 10. Tell that to Wisky and OSU who run similar systems.

Lick came in during a bad time, players left the program! But as a fanbase, if we do not have some patience, no coach will ever be able to rebuild this program. Three years is not enough. If you think so, you simply are just not being realistic!!!

This top 30 class is something like 7th or so in the big ten. How does that move us up when 10 teams or so are likely going to finish ahead of us?
