What did Williams do to get suspended...

...at Kirkwood earlier in the season? The only thing I've seen or heard is that he had some kind of a "run-in" with the women's coach. This incident seems to be the basis for a lot of the concern about his character, but how can anyone know without knowing what is supposed to have occurred?

If there's someone here who knows what happened, please enlighten the rest of us.

Thanks in advance.

Re: What did Williams do to to get suspended...

What I was told is that Williams was in the Gym shooting baskets. The Kirkwood women's coach was scheduled to practice with his team but Williams continued to shoot even after they tried to start practice. The women's coach told him to leave and Williams told him to "F### off."

Can't swear this is what happened only that it was what I was told by a Kirkwood person.

I did a little 'net search and came up with this:

True learning for Williams at Kirkwood|GazetteOnline.com

In pertinent part it says this:

Kirkwood Coach Doug Wagemester suspended the 6-foot-4 guard before the season began in November, not allowing him to practice because of a “violation of team rules.”

Williams missed the Eagles’ first three games, then had to work his way into a starting spot.

“Just team discipline. Disciplinary reasons. Team rules,” Williams said. “I’m not above anybody or the game. I’ve definitely learned a lot in these last three months, four months.”

“He wasn’t meeting the expectations we set for our guys,” Wagemester said. “It was a little bit in a lot of areas. It’d almost have been easier if it had been one large incident or something. You know, bang, this happened, it’s cut and dried. But it wasn’t like that. Any of the things independent to themselves, it would have been nothing. But over time, it was like ‘Wait a minute.’”

Without being specific, Wagemester said Williams’ issues were on and off the court. There were several meetings between the coach, player and his family to see if things could be ironed out.

“I honestly didn’t know if we’d have him back,” Wagemester said. “I didn’t know which way it was going to go. In fact, if I was a betting man, I would have said this doesn’t look good. But to his credit, he pulled himself up by the bootstraps. He did what he needed to do to make it right.”

If what Hooper said is correct, and/or if what the article suggests is correct, it doesn't sound like the kid belongs in San Quentin.

Tell that to Anthony Tucker. And no don't turn this into another of the rehashed Tucker threads. I'm just saying that if Tucker can be put to the end of the bench and ultimately transfer because he gets a simple misdemeanor then what do you think Lick is going to do with a kid that seems have some, shall we call them, authority issues? Remember, this is Licks way or the highway.

There's no comparison between anything I've heard Williams being accused of and what Tucker did in letting his team down three times.

But you might be right about Lickliter's aversion to anything but the boy who brings an apple to the teacher.

On the other hand, Williams has not had any problems since, which I think probably shows that he's actually learned from his experience, where as Tucker was simply unable to do so. I think that this shows Williams can mold himself into what his coach (whoever it may be) needs him to be. And the kid can play ball. May is a great defender, and Williams is another guy who is athletic enough to stay with the Evan Turners and Kalin Lucases of the world.

Wasn't he more or less an after thought out of HS due to the same "issues"? I would still pass on him at this point. I don't think he brings anything to the table that impacts the team positively.

Funny the kid has no suspensions in high school. Plays for Marty Simmons at Evansville, who played for Bobby Knight and is a similar coach, has no problems or suspensions and leads the valley in assists as a freshman and helps a team to their first winning season in ten years and postseason bid. Comes back hoping to be a Hawk. No one here knows what the "brief" incident was and he apologized and it was squashed and they talk today. He was sat out to let him decide if he really wanted to play for Kirkwood and if he did then he wanted a total commit from Kaylon. He came back and there have been no further problems. He wants to play his guts out for Iowa and no he will not be a problem. He plays with fire but maybe that is not what this coaching staff wants.
