what current verbal will play and have the biggest impact next year?

There's what, maybe 3 spots left? And two of the primarly options I saw in the last HawkeyeReport article had no stars and zero offers, from anyone. I wouldn't exactly call them "burners," but they certainly are "sleepers." As in comatose.

The term "burners" are used for speed players. If they have no stars or offers that doesn't mean they aren't "burners", also the term "sleepers" is used as in underrated.

Reno you clearly didn't read my post, I said he playered alot but didn't have many targets. Which is why I think he was a liability on the field. He played a lot but they didn't throw to him alot which teams could all but eliminate him for the play. He played on alot of running plays which was a tell to the defense as well.

I especially like the formation when we brought about a couple TE's and a FB on the field, then pulled our #1 and #2 WR out of the game and put Tevaun Smith out wide as the only receiving option (at least from a split position). I think it most often looked like this:

................Y..T..G..C..G..T......................................................X
.............H.............Q

............................F
............................T

Does anyone remember us actually throwing a pass out of this formation? If we did, I'm assuming it was play action...was our X receiver the primary? I bet I saw that formation at least a couple times in the Western Michigan game alone, which is when I think we first burned his RS.

You are right and this is the type of in-game analysis that other teams picked up on and as the season went on the offense got worse and worse. Yes injuries sucked and played it's part but that mostly affected the running game because the better o-line guys were out and Weisman and Bullock were hurt. But the passing game guys weren't hurt and the ball was thrown right away so pass protection wasn't a huge issue. The offense's issues were on the schemes and the personnel they used and it created patterns and other teams saw it.

KF thinks that as long as you excute you will be fine, this year clearly proved that theory wrong. Sure you can blame talent level, injuries and experience to a point but in the end if you can't do the things you want, you have to try something else. If you aren't willing to change it up because you don't want to hurt the experience of the guys playing, why not put in a different QB. To me it is the same thing, not sure why it is ok other positions but not the QB but that is either near nor there at this point.

They throw a couple of passes to Smith out of that formation. Unfortunately, he looked like Reggie Evans trying to catch a pass. We they never changed up that package is another head scratcher amongst many head scratchers.

He didn't get a lot of chances this year but when he did, he didn't show much. He running routes and blocking on running plays but didn't get many targets.

If he was the best option of all true freshman, RS freshman and sophmores for this past season after Keenan, KMM and Cotton/Shumpert then this team really needs some guys to step up next season.

on HR, right before the dead period for recruiting, GD offered 2 TX WR. one in the 2013 class by the name of Devon Lauderdale 5'11 4* 211 overall by Rivals and 4* grade 81 on ESPN,. out of Houston TX.
then he offered Garret Gray 6'5 WR, made the TX 4A class 2nd team, 75th best player in his year class by TX preps, for the 2014 recruiting class,
as for others for this class, LB Spearman is still thinking about flipping to Iowa 5.7 3* by Rivals, 79 3* by6 ESPN,
only Isaiah Gourdine S 6'2 is the only 2* that ESPN shows with a Iowa offer, pout of Michigan
the rest are all 3* players.
this is not a bad class, to end the class with only 1 2* player, is a whole lot better than a class split between 12 3*players and 13 2* players like the 2008 class.
this class could end up 19 3* players and 1 2* player.
even Jacquille Veii 5'10 4.49 40 Athlete is a 3* by ESPN could be used on defense or offense
LB Young is still listed as a 4* by Max Preps on 247
TE Wisinieski is a 4* by ESPN this class is better than people care to admit and the ones that Iowa has a chance at are not at the bottum of the barrell recruits
who knows this staff might pull a rabbit out of the hat by getting DT Josh Augusta 5.7 3* by Rivals, but top 150 by ESPN at 130 4*, with just Missouri and Illinois the top 2 competitors.

for the record ESPN just now rated Powel a 79 3*, a change from the past of not grading JUCO's
they also show a offer out to grade 78 3* WR JUCO Jatavius Stewart 5'11 4.49 40 out of SC and played for Hutchinson JUCO college have to be a ESPN INSIDER to learn more

That stuff really annoys the hell out of me.

This class is pretty lackluster now that the only 2 four stars have gone elsewhere. If any of them make an impact next year it will mean that our upper class talent level is near rock bottom.

It sucked losing Hill but I think this class is better than "lackluster". When you go 4-8 you're not going to land a lot of 4 and 5 star guys. Mostly 3 star across the board and it appears some good speed too. I like this class and I liked last years class too. I think this class will pan out better than most think. I do really hope we don't lose the JC WR though. There seems to be some chatter about him looking around
