Whomever we hire, assuming GB leaves, s/he better be a damn good fund raiser. Say what you will, the facilities improvements under GB's reign have been more than just impressive (except for the water tower). And remember, no taxpayer $ has gone to these projects. He has essentially gotten the alums/big donors to pony up.
The win/losses in most of the sports are beyond the AD's control; yeah, you can make an argument for the head coaches in FB, WR, Men's and Women's BB, and a little bit in BB. After that, its a big who cares? Do not misunderstand me: I really want all of our sports to be very competitive, by the reality is that only a couple or 3 of them really matter from a pragmatic position.
Of course, this current fiasco has brought out the GB critics. I have never really been in that camp. I don't agree with everything he has done, but I am not the smartest guy in the room when it comes to running a power 5 university athletic dept. Its the old "walk a mile" thing. And, coming from a position where I was the top dog, I fully understand how people don't always understand the politics involved in leadership roles as well as the tremendous number of decisions you make and how easy it is to sit in the stands and second guess how those responsibilities are handled. Not whining. I applied for the position. So, true for Barta, as well.
