What can happen with > 4 yards per carry.

Not sure what the complete stats are but the hawks might be gaining just a little over 3 yards per carry.

If Canzeri can get healthy he looks like he is getting a feel for this blocking and can average 4+ per carry. If the Off Line can work on their technique and timing can we start getting that 4+ ypc.

The coaches have plenty of film to see what run plays and blocking are working best. Daniels and Parker look to be getting more time, Daniels is trusted with pass blocking also. Not worried about Weisman as he will get the tough yards.

If the hawks can do this improvement they can start off punishing the opponent from the opening drive which has been a problem this year. The passing game can start to open up the run game and vice versa. And most importantly perhaps the hawks can score early, get the lead, and control games.

Welsh or Walsh and some other players had been ill so perhaps that will behind the team (in more ways than one). We know what can happen when a KF team can run like 2002-3 and 2008-2010 prior to ARob and Off Line getting injuries.

I am confident in the hawks.

That's a lot of paragraphs.

haha, fixed it. When I paste from Notepad.exe it adds more carriage returns.

Does anyone see this line and backs getting consistently better in the run game?

I would like to see that one counter play they used early in the year where the QB turns one way after the snap, the offside guard pulls to the other side of center, the handoff and run then actually goes to the other side of center than the usual motion.

We were 10th in 2009 and 9th in 2010 in rushing. I wouldn't count those as model years. Weisman and Co. were actually better last year at 6th in the Big Ten. 2013 was the 4th best rushing year for KF in 16 years.

We need more plays that put defensive players to a decision like that Jet Sweep with Parker. The DE was completely confused on that play. The really good college rushing teams, like the Huskers in the 90's and even Oregon today, employ plays that put the question to the defensive player. On the other hand, you could be good like Wiscy and Alabama and just overpower weaker opponents. btw, Oregon typically runs the ball 65% or more of the plays, which is much more than us, but they do it very creatively.

Now, now; that is just too risky, and unfair to the opponent.

sad since the hawks are supposed to be a run first team but no surprise given the less than stellar offensive production under ferentz. aside from 2002 and 2005 I can't really name an offense that could hold it's own and win a game when needed.

2008-09 but I get your point.

The running game will improve as we begin to stretch the field with longer passes. If you look at the games with Jake (especially ISU), we were running against 8 and sometimes 9 in the box. The defenses began to back up with CJ in, and the running game began to get a little better. Still a long way to go, but backing those Dbacks up will help.

if we got 4 ypc running the ball, you'd never have to throw the ball, never have to punt.....just sayin' i'm pretty slick with the math.....

:)

The ypc stat is an average. Your scenario would only be true if we had 4 yards EVERY carry. I'm bad at math but do understand that basic concept. :p
