what are the odds we see this during the indiana game...

Herby stated in a post that indiana isn't as good as people think and we match up very well with the following lineup...

1) gesell or clemmons
2) marble
3) white
4) olaseni
5) woodbury

I could see olaseni and woodbury playing together at times but this lineup has on 2 ball handlers and very little outside shooting. We struggled with white at the 3 and he has played it almost none lately. I think we dictate more match up problems with white at the 4. Like I said with the development of olaseni lately I could see him playing next to woody against big plodding teams but indiana isn't like that. So I do not believe it will happen with this exact lineup (at least not against indiana). I could see it maybe against an msu who is a slower style team.

A lineup like this will be more likely next yr with uthoff at the 3 and marble at the 2 as uthoff is a better ball handler and wing player than white is.

Gesell and Marble are very good outside shooters, White is having problems with a wrist injury.
this is not a 10 to 15 minute stretch its more of a 6-7 minute type stretch lineup to shake things up.
its supposed to be the Big lineup Iowa has been lacking

Red, the real question at hand is if Fran leaves for another job (probably NBA level), will you be available to take over?

Iowa has been lacking a big lineup? Didn't know that considering their center is bigger than most teams center. Their pf is basically standard height. Their 3 is 6'6 which is normal (actually maybe bigger than most). The only spot iowa is probably consistently smaller at is the 2 guard when gesell is playing there. But marble and ogelsby both also play their. And maybe the center position when woodbury comes out but lately olaseni has made big leaps and he isn't as short as mccabe or basabe who had been backing woody up.

I find it funny that white has shot so poorly from 3 pt land and yet people stay with it that he can shoot. He might have a wrist problem right now but what was his problem last yr? Marble has had a great stretch that has really raised his %. And gesell has shown to be solid but you can't expect frosh to be very consistent. If he is that is awesome. Marble has to step up consistently from outside and he has the capabilities but has only done it on a limited basis.

The 3 spot for indiana is similar to marble at the 3. They want to have 3 possible ball handlers on the court. White would struggle defensively at the wing against them. Though I do see him creating a lot of mismatches at the 4 and possibly being a good fit to guard zeller during stretches as he can run with zeller (maybe better than anyone else).

I could possibly see that lineup against MSU with their size, very small chance against anyone else for an extended period of time.

every year Marble as improved his scoring and shooting
FR 5.7, PPG 37.9% from the field, 26.3% from 3 and 53% from the line
So 11.5 ppg 43.6% from the field, 39.3% from 3 and 72.3% from the line
JR 15.7 PPG 45.4% from the field, 39.2% from 3 after going 0-4 against Coppin St, and 76.7%from the line what are you expecting
for comparisons Gatens as a JR stats
12.6 ppg 39.5% from the field, 33.1% from 3 and 76 of 87 for 87.4 % from the line
and as a JR has already shot 46-60 thru 13 games

39.2 is not better than 39.3

This probably isn't the game to start experimenting with lineups. That's what the pre-conference season is for.

Iowa got crushed by Zeller last year at Indiana. If this is the line up to combat the bash fest that he had on us so be it. We will see what we are made of New Years Eve remember the hype for the OSU game last year and the ensuing beat down that occured. I'm not saying that will happen, but we will certainly find out what type of team we have.

Having guards that can defend the perimeter and everyone getting back in transition is the way to prevent that.

Playing White at the 3 against probably the quickest 3 in the league would be a recipe for allot of easy IU buckets.
