What are the cubs going to do?

Im guessing it might be Carlos Pena and his .196 batting average and maybe Brandon Webb?? Not much else out there, and we all know the excessive money already committed to the payroll for next year. Unless Hendry gets really creative and pulls off a trade this week at the meetings.

I hope not. Surely somebody has a triple A 1B that is ready. I mean someone behind Pujols, Gonzalez or something. Or even nady wouldn't be a horrible choice. something cheap and possibly not permanent when money does open up in a year or 2

i personally think they should try to trade fukodome+minor league players for phillies ibanez and put him at 1b

ibanez would scare me. I would prefer a more traditional 1b since Castro has been known to throw the ball every which way.

im with you on that but i hate fukudome

i think it won't happen ever..the cubs wanted Gonzalez but couldn't make red sox's offer

i really think laroche will be a cub here soon

I know Pena had a down year, but he's pretty good at drawing walk and not too bad at getting big hits either. I think he'll end up having a nice bounceback year.

I think he should be a solid signing for the Cubs as much as I hate to see them make solid signings I think he will do well for the cubs

I hope you're right. 10 mill is up there but it's the cubs. I like him better than LaRoche or Dunn. I had always hoped the cubs would be contenders for AGon, but that opportunity is long gone.

I can live with a 1-year deal. If Pena can hit 30+ HR's and raise his average to at least non-laughable territory, he will be a bargain. If he's a bust, at least the Cubs aren't stuck with him for 4 more years.
