Whar Fire Fran Brigade? Whar?

1977Hawkeye is right...this is not a "support Fran" thread...it is a "bash anyone who ever dared criticize Fran" thread. A troll job...nothing more.

Newsflash: criticizing a coach does NOT equal "hater". I really despise that term. I also don't think much of people who keep track of posters who have had differing opinions at times, who eagerly wait for the opportunity to start ridiculous threads like this in order to "prove" how superior they are. This is what cyclone fans do. I thought you were better than this, 1hawkeye1, but I guess not.

Here's the deal.... When you are a downtrodden program you need all the support you can get. This is why we never want to get back into this spot again. It's hell living it and digging out of it.

We all know how bad this program was and the depths it had sunk to. We are having to learn how to win again at so many levels not just on the court but within the fan base. This program really needed undying support especially as you could see the steps that were unfolding and the effort being exerted by Fran, his staff and his players both past and present. But then after every heartbreak here would come the doubters and haters. Not tough enough to stick it out. I am not saying it is bad not to question or be concerned at times. I am targeting the fire Fran, let's blow it up and start all over guys. Those guys need to step up and learn a lesson if they are really our fans to begin with.

Whats the point of contuing to bring this up? Some were Pizzed after a loss, but very few were actually calling for his head. The best part of the season has been the finish and the NCAA tourney, so why not just enjoy it?

Good gawd man, I'm enjoying this more than Dick Vitale and a handful of Viagra!

I agree 100%. I have supported Fran from Day 1 but admit to starting to have doubts when the team started to struggle again. I don't think I was part of the "fire Fran and blow it all up" crowd....more like wanting to wait until after the season to see if things improved, but if not maybe we should think of moving on.

My personal opinion is: those that are willing to offer constructive criticism are actually more of a Hawkeye fan than the Perpetual Sunshine Club. But there is no more room for the overly critical than there is for the "everything's just great" crowd.

Kudos to Fran and especially the players. I thought they just flat-out quit last year....but this year, especially down the stretch...showed a mental toughness I honestly did not think they had. Well done!

Excellent points. Yes the sunshine crowd is not great either. I had some concerns as well after the non con and given the daunting B1G schedule that we were given to start the season. I had reason to wonder if we could make the NIT this year. At that same point I never doubted Fran and where he was working to take this program. There has just been a gut feel with him that I cannot explain. Over the long haul we would see the fruits of his labor.

I still think we could have some disappointing seasons in the future as we reload from graduation losses but when you have the right guy, do not panic over every set back.

I also feel strongly about Pat Chambers from PSU in the B1G. He just has the misfortune of being at a tough place to recruit and consistently win for bball. He is a better coach than several high profile B1G coaches. I see him getting axed at some point though which is a shame.

lol, I just realized that Jon has appointed a mod (about time). But someone who starts troll threads.

THIS IS AWESOME!!!!

roflmao!

All you people who wanted him fired, I hope you just watched him completely outcoach a veteran coach. Fantastic defensive game plan! Congrats to Fran and the Hawks. Long live IOWA HOOPS!!

I must of missed all those fire Fran threads?

That said Pretty crazy It's a Moderator that's start this thread.. hahaha classic!!

I'm not afraid to admit I started the Fran lost me thread but it wasn't because I wanted him fired.. I was commenting on sitting Jok for as long as he did against Northwestern among other things.

Reading Comphension is a unique skill few have on this board at times.. :)

Here you go Mod. Not afraid to post it and at no point did I say FRAN needs fired..

Can't erase the 2 bad loses at the time this thread was started. It was a low point. However this is why message boards are so much fun. A tetter totter of I told you so's...

Furthermore this thread wasn't a hate thread towards Fran being fired it was directly with regards to his whacky *** substutitons/lineups we see and sitting Jok and Gabe like he did against Northwestern. Time will tell but odds pretty damn high that this won't be the last time.

“Any player who smiles after a loss, I’ll punch in the mouth. We don’t want fans saying nice things to us after we play well and lose. That’s why Iowa hasn’t won for 17 years. We’re out there to win, not come close.”

I tend to agree, however this is generally not the case. It would be awesome if people could somehow have an intelligent conversation that doesn't degrade into a "you must be a cy fan" and actually make a valid point/criticism. I hope most of the people that go crazy on forums will maybe see this and think for a second the next time things don't work out.

I was a pretty big critic...and have even had my doubts this year. But gosh this team is fun to watch when they play well...I still think Fran is a nutcase...but I have decided to embrace that like many Hoosiers probably did with coach Knight. And as the old adage goes..."just win baby!!"

GO HAWKS!!!!!!! Down with the Zags!!

Ol' forever clown hasn't made an appearance for a few days now...wonder what happened?

That was predictable, because he is a pathetic, miserable person. I will continue to update the R.I.P Foreveriowan thread though.....he deserves to be mocked all offseason.

Finding out your child has cancer tends to change perspective.

I always figured Fran wasn't going to be a long-term guy, given his previous history/longevity.

But, with Patrick's situation, and assuming U of I is where his doctors are, it's probably where they WANT to be, regardless.

I just hope Fran won't continue to be treated like a second-class citizen by B1G refs and even B1G office. I care less than a rat's rear how "media" treats him. I suspect Fran cares even less than I on that score.

I'm not sold on Fran as "miracle worker". I AM sold on him being a good coach and motivator.
