"We're From the Country and we Like It That Way"

I've lived on the East Coast for 60% of my life after living in Iowa for the other 40%. Generally speaking, based on my observations and life experiences, Iowans have the smartest, most honest, most open, most friendly, and classiest people.

Iowa also has the best looking women.

Nobody here is disputing any of this! Why are you two hell-bent on hijacking this thread?

Yeah... No kidding! Let's get this back to "country music sucks" or something along those lines...

Finally some sanity! Thanks, Freak.
Country music totally sucks. Only "gangsta rap" hurts my ears (and soul) more. ;)

I struggle with this...because on the one hand, I am proud of my Iowan and country-ish heritage. On the other hand, I hate it when the rest of the world thinks we are a bunch of hicks, because that is not true.
You're right, but that says more about their arrogance and/or ignorance than it does about our hickishness.

I'm comfortable in my own Iowan skin so I could really give a rip what the rest of the world thinks.

Wow. You seem to have a thing for New York. At any rate, did New Yorkers complain about the Country music, or is this just a thing for you? :)

Again, your provincial comments play into the perception... just sayin.[/QUOTe}

How so? I don't live in Iowa, but I've worked with people from all over the world and work a lot in NYC. I will take the work attitude and the innate ability to know the difference between right and wrong demonstrated by those from the Midwest than any New Yorker I've ever met--ever met.

I agree that the work ethic and honestly displayed by Iowans (which includes pretty much everyone on this board at one time) is top notch.

My point is that your apparently powerful reaction is interesting, and not uncommon.

I've also had the opportunity to live and work in different places and I agree with you for the most part, okay?

I've actually found that there are hard working people from lots of places. When I worked in Chicago, I was amazed with the staff in one hospital. Most were first generation immigrants from places like India or the Phillipines. Hardest working people I'd ever met. Ever. Now, I'm here in Madison, WI and the long term staff is quite lazy. Just sayin. Kinda depends upon your experiences.

BTW--I'd hazard a guess that most people living in Manhattan weren't born there?

I like a lot of rap but not gangsta. I do have to clarify... I do like Johnny Cash but that's not country is it? Its in a class by itself.

Johnny Cash is most certainly in a (high) class by himself. No way he gets lumped in with the generic crap that passes for "country" music.
:)

jon -you travel around the state much?? :)

West Branch, West Liberty, Atalissa -

Come on man, time to face reality! even if you do live in an Iowa 'city' it is still small town.....

i used to live out in the NYC metro and they made fun of Chicago and called it a farm town (paraphrase). If folks from NYC make fun of a big city like Chicago.....well.........

Attitudes like that tell me that those people from NYC are just a different variety of hick.

Cash wore too much black and had a dark side. Corny wasn't his thing. He was cool.

Hey, we're hijacking now! Excellent.
Cash defined cool. The Man battled some demons, and produced some incredibly powerful music. I'm a big fan, always have been.

Maybe Cash could be played (in addition to AC/DC). There's sort of a black theme...or a darkness theme.

Then we don't have to worry about people from New York City!!! :)

Fully HIjacked. Congrats.

I grew up in San Diego and have lived in Los Angeles and Las Vegas the last 23 years after college. I went to school at the U of I and wouldn't trade that experience, but I never ever felt country at all and I'm still a Hawkeye.

Guys, seriously, does it matter if it's country, rock, R & B, classic...whatever? If you dig the song, then you dig the song. Stop with the country sucks thing. There's a lot of great "country" songs. There's a lot of great "rap" songs..."heavy metal" songs..."blues" songs.....

you know what I mean. If it moves you, and you like it, that's what we should look for in a song.

We will have to select a song...hmmm...what should we choose?
