"We're From the Country and we Like It That Way"

They played darn near the entire song after Dolph signed on to the broadcast.

Not sure how to feel about it.

haha.......typical image for outsiders. I kinda liked the song.......

I struggle with this...because on the one hand, I am proud of my Iowan and country-ish heritage. On the other hand, I hate it when the rest of the world thinks we are a bunch of hicks, because that is not true.

I missed it. Don't know the song at all.

What is wrong with this song? You capitalized Country, so does it refer to America, or to rural areas of the Country?

I'm assuming it was this song?

Back in the 80's, Kinnick used to play R&B-type music before the game. It was interesting. Then it kind of evolved into old top 40 stuff, and then to old rock. Now, it seems they made the full journey by going Country. Also not sure how I feel about that. I don't mind country music, and I'm from central Iowa myself, but country doesn't get my competitive juices flowing, that's for sure. Maybe I'm in the minority of Iowans, though. Perhaps that does speak to the rural heritage. I dunno.

jon -you travel around the state much?? :)

West Branch, West Liberty, Atalissa -

Come on man, time to face reality! even if you do live in an Iowa 'city' it is still small town.....

i used to live out in the NYC metro and they made fun of Chicago and called it a farm town (paraphrase). If folks from NYC make fun of a big city like Chicago.....well.........

I could really care less what Manhattan has to say about anything. It was at the causal epicenter of the greatest global economic disaster in 8 decades. Rest of us should be passing judgment on them, not the other way around. And Chicago blows NYC away!!!

I know how I feel about it...not very good. Of course I'm probably influenced by how I feel about most country music in general. At least that produced in the last 15 years or so.

This is why people from other areas laugh. Iowa was at the epicenter of not so much. Edit: That's because NYC is the financial center of the US if not the world. :)

I agree that Chicago blows NYC away (but then again I lived in Chicago for 5 years).

I would rather be at the epicenter of nothing than at the center of sh*T!!!

Wow. You seem to have a thing for New York. At any rate, did New Yorkers complain about the Country music, or is this just a thing for you? :)

Again, your provincial comments play into the perception... just sayin.

Not to mention how ESPN handles that really well by making every return from commercial shot look like kinnick is surrounded by rolling hay fields and that we all drove our tractors here.

Seriously makes we wanna smash my TV...

How so? I don't live in Iowa, but I've worked with people from all over the world and work a lot in NYC. I will take the work attitude and the innate ability to know the difference between right and wrong demonstrated by those from the Midwest than any New Yorker I've ever met--ever met.

You just seem really fired up and ready to unload on New York/New Yorkers, that's all. I mean, you seem downright offended and PO'd.
Obviously, everyone here is a huge fan of Iowa (the state). Nobody here is dissing Iowans or Midwesterners. No need to really defend The Hawkeye State on HN.com! :)

I've lived on the East Coast for 60% of my life after living in Iowa for the other 40%. Generally speaking, based on my observations and life experiences, Iowans have the smartest, most honest, most open, most friendly, and classiest people.

Iowa also has the best looking women.
