We're About to Soar

Our 2 most highly regarded recruits will be juniors next year. An 11-7 record is reasonable. The NCAA is likely...IMO. Slow and steady...Slow and steady. Lasting success (a completely rebuilt and sound program) doesn't happen overnight.

Edit - I should have added that the improvement the last 2 seasons took place when the B1G is arguably the best conference in the country over the past 2 seasons combined. It's hard to move up in the standings and have a better record when playing the best...yet we've done this.

Also should note that the improved B1G record will come against a much tougher conference schedule than the one Iowa faced last year.
 
I still think this team is going to be hit or miss in the tourney. If they shoot well they can pull off a massive upset.. If they have one of their 3 for 17 shooting nights from the arc we'll be happy football is around the corner.

Also refs in the tourney could be different who knows.. Most of the Big 10 games they don't call it both ways, and it's just extremely hard to watch at times.
 
I'm not sure I'm ready to agree that were ready to soar.

Were in a vicious cycle... The more we lose, the more pressure there is to start winning a game, and we know how this team handles pressure.

Good news... Playing a home game against Purdue should be just what this team needs and it only takes one win to start a streak.

B10 officiating SUCKS. Seriously - the conf needs to do something.
 
I will add that I was one that said we could go 14-4 or 15-3 in the B1G, this season. Clearly, I was wrong. But, I am not unhappy with this team and I believe I can see that this is a very good team that has a lot of potential to make a really strong tourney run. I will admit, now, that my 14-4/15-3 predictions were nieve in that I lost track of just how much of a struggle 18 games in the B1G can be. I'll give myself the benefit of the doubt and say that my nievety was due to a hangover from the Licklighter era, in which having no dog in the hunt, I lost track of the true nature of this league. At 11-7 or 10-8 and 2-4 wins in the B1G, this team would clearly show they are a damn good team. Imagine the Iowa team that beat UM against teams in the NCAA that have never seen that kind of team. Iows is one of only a handful of teams that have that depth. Don't discount the depth.
 
I just about to jump off the roof to test my theory that i can soar as high as eagle but were snapped back to reality when my daughter called me down to help her with her math homework... I believe that we re not bad as people says..... Go Hawks

The guards will be MG, a still radically inconsistent JO and two guys that have virtually grabbed no PT this year. MG has clearly shown he is not strong enough to go one one to hit the winning shot at the end of the game.

Jok isn't good enough to play on a team without a player who can hit a big shot at the end of the game and he is supposed to fill Marble's shoes?! Seriously, look at the backcourt next year. It looks very Licklike at the moment. If it isn't then why aren't the guards for next year getting any PT? If the backcourt is largely MG and JO, Iowa will be lucky to make the NIT.

Iowa is still looking to add depth to the backcourt.

That being said, I disagree with pretty much your enitre post.

In fairness to Jok, would you give him any of RDM's minutes? The truth is that Jok is an unknown, now, and will be to start next season. I think Fran is being smart with him: gave him pretty good minutes preseason and then letting him watch in the B1G season. Remember, the major unknown with Jok is his knee. Why not rest him, and save the wear and tear on his knee, when he isn't "needed"? I believe Jok will be approach RDM levels or more, (SO to SO seasons). I just see that Jok will be a star type player. We do need more depth at guard next season, but that is for depth and development and not necessarily for a lack of talent from the guys that will be returning. Hell, JU could see some minutes at the 2 spot next season.

Okay, tell me what I have exactly said with which you disagree. Do you think MG and JO is a competitive B1G backcourt? Do you expect Jok and Sapp will go from the end of the bench to B1G competitive? I see lots of great things and expect Jok to succeed in the future, but I find it hard to believe he will be able to compete against other top B1G guards without any PT since the non-con.

MG will continue to develop into a strong B1G PG. But he isn't going to be an NBA quality guy. The roof is Crispin, not Appling, Burke, etc.

The hope is Fran gets lucky with a fifth year graduate or some other situation where a last shot guy becomes available.

Didn't realize how much, Mel meant to the team. Without him we are weak inside on offense and defense. We really should be focused now with the Big Tournament Bye on the ropes.....

Jack, it is interesting that many fans haven't caught on, or haven't expressed, that the real missing piece is an enforcer for next years team. We need that next Basabe, a guy who is 6-8 to 6-10 and 235 to 250. I know that is bigger than Melsahn, but we need that type of guy. Could that be Kyle Meyer??? Who knows. I've only seen how good he is at standing at half court holding the ball while the clock runs down in garbage time.
