We're About to Soar

This team is too good. We needed a slump - every team has one. We needed this period to understand the stakes and the effort needed to step up as the curtain starts to fall. We're talented at every position, we're deep, we're well-coached and we have high character guys.

This team is going to do something special in the next month. Mark my words and remember I said them. This group is not going away. It's just not happening.

Our seed won't be as good as it should've been, but we will be a tough out on a neutral court no matter where we get seeded. I agree completely. Remember the run in the NIT last year?? This team will beat Purdue and Illinois..make noise in the BTT..and make some teams fan base say "oh $hit..we have to play Iowa" on Selection Sunday"

If we can land on the six line, we'll get a three seed in round 2 and a two seed in the sweet sixteen.

I'm very much good with that. 6 seed > 5 seed.

Count me in, 'grape. I had this same thought - that if we were going to slump, I'd like to do it now while we still have a few games left in the regular season (a couple of which that should be W's) to get our mojo in order heading to the BTT.

This team has built a lot of character during the year. I think it will shine through in tournament time, we'll be a tough out. I really believe we can hang with anybody in the country when we're clicking on all cylinders.

Oh they're going away..to the NIT.

Would take losses in every game thru the BTT to 'earn' that route. Not happening.

Iowa will get that win this Sunday against purdont, then give MSU one hell of a game.
Gotta think positive.

I just want the Hawks in the NCAA.....after that, anything can happen.

I have to believe this team's goal is to reach the NCAA....the closer they get to locking it in, the tighter they are playing. And the losses are making it worse. I believe that if (when) they get in the tourney, they will play looser....and better.

I'm hoping that loss to a very average Indiana team was the bottom. I'm also very hopeful that you are right. So far this team has not shown the mental toughness that is going to be required. I think these are high quality guys, so it's there, it just needs to catalyze.

Yep

I'm drinking this grape kool-aid. This team hasn't really had to face adversity this season, they've been talented enough to stave off consecutive losses all season, until now. Think about that. You need a lot of talent to do that. And let us not forget that, from my observations, the flu bug hit the team in varying degrees starting with the PU game. So, we're at where we're at; still with a chance at a 1st round bye in the B1G. This team will win at least 2 games in the NCAA and we can go from there.

Ah, the Internet - the only place in the known universe where someone going by the handle "TheRandomBoner" serves as the voice of reason.

I heard that Greg Brunner said something to that effect. Like, exactly that. Though that doesn't look a thing like him when you squint enough to see the dang pic.

I can only imagine the combination of 1. Playing 2 games in 2+ weeks and 2. Playing 3 games in 1 week didn't mix so well for us. I can't imagine any team succeeding under those conditions. There was precedent for each this year, too. The flurry of games from the Xavier-UTEP-Nova tournament caused a scenario exactly like what we saw vs Indiana and Minnesota when we played Notre Dame. High scoring game that a bad team very well could have won. We opened the B1G with 2 games spread across a long time and we almost dropped one to Nebraska. Now that things at least appear normal maybe we can sneak out of this thing with a couple road wins.

Many including myself thought our B1G record would be better than it will be. However, some perspective is in order.

10-11 = 4-14 (no postseason)
11-12 = 8-10 (NIT)
12-13 = 9-9 (NIT championship game)
13-14 = 10-8 (NCAA)

Assuming we will win our 2 home games.

Edit - I should have added that the improvement the last 2 seasons took place when the B1G is arguably the best conference in the country over the past 2 seasons combined. It's hard to move up in the standings and have a better record when playing the best...yet we've done this.

We're not losing the Michigan St. game.
