I feel like I've come to the end of the road on a long journey and finally once I have gotten there, I have no clue where to to go from here. That sums up this Monday. For the last four months it has pretty much been nothing but Iowa football. Just like you guys I went through every event and emotion: media days, Wegher leaving, rebuilding the Oline, Robinson and Hampton in bubblewrap, season opener, creaming ISU, making the loooooooong drive to Tucson, losing Jewell, soaked for Ball State, absolutely stunned for black and gold spirit night, Wegher rumors on the bye week, taking it to Michigan, heartbreak against Wiscy, redemption against MSU, close call at Indy, getting owned by Fitz, dropping another close one to Tressel, possible locker room fights, and whatever the hell you want to call what happened in Minny.
And now here I am, four months later, the journey pretty much over. No more packing the tailgate junk up and waking up at 4:00am, no more weekly press conferences and depth charts, no more weekly rollercoaster ride. Nothing ahead but four weeks of speculation, finger pointing, and trying to get up for a caliber bowl game that few imagined we would be participating in before the season started. Then we get three hours of "one more time around" and then *poof*, football is over for another 8 months. This time of year can be such a high (like last year) or such a buzzkill (like now). But in the end, this time of year sucks. It marks the end of another regular season. Another class of young men graduating, another 12 games marked in the left and right columns, another winter approaching. And I stand here, in what seems to be an empty room saying "well, now what?"
