Well, Looks like we're out on Charlie Moore

Just talking hypothetically here since I have no inside knowledge, but if our coaches recruited an athlete based on the values of our program but the athlete wanted to go where he would receive money to play, thus his final college choices as listed were places where he had such offers of money to play, is this a bad reflection on our coaching staff? If so, I'm happy they have such a poor coaching staff because I don't want to be a part of a sports program where we sacrifice values for the sake of winning.

Again, not putting blame on other programs as I certainly don't know anything about their recruiting processes, but the ilure to get in a player's final 8 schools may be a good reflection of our program.

Or more likely a reflection of an 18 year old kid who doesn't know up from down, much like myself at that age.

Wow that's incredibly disappointing by our staff.
Not sure if serious. This kid was obviously looking for something specific, and it wasn't in Iowa. We have no idea what he is thinking, what he wants, or what the conversations between he and Iowa have been. Sometimes it's just not a good fit. No reason to bash the staff or the kid. Believe it or not, as much as we love our state, some people aren't interested in spending four years of college here.

We were considered a leader for him at one point and then something happened, we got back involved for a second time and were trying to get a visit and we didn't make his top 8. That's disappointing

Would be curious to know if the fact that Connor is committed has something to do with our inability to land a PG. Opposing coaches can definitely pull the 'coaches kid' card.

I think it's disappointing in the way that we could have used him, but it's hard for me to be disappointed in the staff when I don't know the whole story. The second time around, maybe he has a better idea of the type of location he would like to be in, and Iowa doesn't fit the mold. Or maybe it's 100 other things including a miss by our staff. I don't know, but I'm not going to assume anything until there is a clear pattern.

With a player like Moore I don't think so. Vital maybe since he seems to be more of a combo guard like Connor. Moore was going to get minutes regardless who was coming in.

That's a good question... I hadn't really taken that into consideration but I'm sure other coaches may be using it against Fran.

Cook was recruiting Moore. And Cook said he got the okay from the coaches to communicate with Moore. Does anyone have a link to anything concrete saying Iowa's coaches were even interested? I read about Fran visiting Vital. I didn't read anything about Fran visiting Moore...or even reaching out to Moore.

One of Iowa’s top targets in the 2016 Recruiting Class recently became available again. As luck would have it, Hawkeye scholarships opened up around the same time.

The two developments rekindled the relationship between Iowa and Chicago point guard Charlie Moore, according to his AAU program. The Mac Irvin Fire and other sources close to the situation told Hawkeye Nation Tuesday the two sides were working on a visit date with it possibly happening as soon as this weekend.

I was thinking the same thing.

Seriously?

WOW, people are awfully picky about our recruits. I don't care if the guy is an English major or not - can he play the game?

Besides, it's easy enough to accidentally make a typo or misspell a word.. I've typed "there" instead of "their" before, and I consider myself pretty well educated. Accidentally, not because I don't know how to spell the word. It can happen. But yeah, guess Moore is a horrible person and we don't want him in IC because of that. LOL.

"We didn't want him anyway". Love some of these posts.

I highly doubt anyone really doesn't want him because of that.

I just do not understand the PG thing with fran. Why can iowa never get a stud true point guard. They would be virtually guaranteed to be a 4 year starter on a run/gun high scoring team. It seems like for years and years now iowa has been a PG away from being something really special

It doesn't look like it's gonna happen anytime soon, so I guess we're just gonna have lower our expectations.

I suppose. I mean I get paige and ulis going to blue bloods, I'm not going to pretend iowa is close to that level. But some of these others....boggles my mind

Exactly. Looks lame saying these other schools are bribing him as well!

This one confuses me. If he were looking at blue blood programs, I could certainly understand it since were not on that level. But compared to the schools listed, it just doesn't make sense. The Hawkeyes just look like the best situation for him by far. Obviously there is something we probably will never know driving his decision. Wasn't the original problem with his "handlers"? It's possible that problem still exists and Fran refuses to play that game. Or, it's possible that bridge was simply burned the first time around.

I have a feeling we're going to look back in December and wish Fran didn't bank this scholarship.
This feels like a rebuild year to me. I know Jok is good, but we have a lot of role players that need more time to develop. I want to be wrong, and I think it's fair to say it's still unknown at this point, but guards are so important, and I don't think we have a true PG on the roster.
